Gta Iv - 29th April 2008

A poker challange to pay for a games console isn't a bad idea.

I'm thinking about doing one to raise the $3,000 I need for a new mountain bike.

But back to topic, 29th of April is hte day, the new trailer looks stunning, today I've booked the release day off work; NZ is the first place in the world to get the game, I'll be 12 hours into it when your getting out of bed and heading to the shops.

Ok, so I opened this thread 1 year and 4 days ago.

We've had rummors and speculation and then the the trailers, the build up is incredible, so I guess it's time to ask the big question.

Is it certain that GTA IV will be the most disapointing game of all time ?

The longer this goes on, the bigger the hype has got, the higher the expectation is in peoples mind, I guess the expectation levels of some people are just simply unrealistic, if it's not better than The White Album, The Sopranos, the last 2 mins of the '99 champions league final and a long weekend with Lucy Pinder & Keely Hazel rolled up into one people are gonna be disapointed.

The build up to this reminds me of the release of the second Stone Roses album, there was a five year wait. People wanted it so so bad. In peoples minds it was going to be the flawless perfect album, instead it was just very very good. Indeed it was better than the first album, although it took me and most people 10 years to realise it.

Let's remember it just a video game, it's gonna have problems and flaws. Enjoy and embrace, don't let the hype destroy it for you.

to be honest i dont think rockstar have done too much wrong with the grand theft series so i am just looking forward to getting the game.personally i think it will be pretty hot even with the hype.

lmao - I was going to put up a similar post earlier - I'm getting sick of the hype - and watching the latest video today I started to wonder - does it really look that great?

This is weird, i was thinking the same thing in work today. I have seen some photos from a console mag who had played the multiplayer and TBH it didn't look that good, i mean COD looks alot better, but then in the early days GTA wasn't about graphics, but gameplay.

My argument is that this is bollox now, its next Gen the consoles can do amazing things, sp the Gameplay AND graphics SHOULD be top drawer. I will try and find the photos, but the characters looked chunky/blocks.

I will still get it and Love it but i think they need to move on and stop resting on the past. Look at COD (granted COD 4 was made by a different company)

Also like every other fecken game i bet you that there are online gaming problems, its a fecken cert.

game play is the most important factor, although I notice the game is at 720p, would have been nice at 1080p

One of the main things i go by when judging a game is the adverts that go with it - If the adverts are full of not actual gameplay footage then that invariably means it looks shit IRL and so far it definitely seems the case with GTA IV. Of course it's hard for any game on a top console to look bad, but as others say i'm really not expecting big things from it at all. Perhaps rockstar compromise a lot of the graphic quality to create huge physical environments, but i have no idea about these things it's just a guess.

Well I can't wait, I can see this being a smash hit with all gamers.
If its as big and as indepth as I see it then this game will still be played come Christmas.

For me its gotta look good but its also gotta suck you in the that make believe world where you can lose yourself. Vice city did this although looking back its dated very badly but I think this where GTA IV will shine through, I dont see it dating as quick and it seems like Rockstar have gone into great depths about detail.

I cant wait.

You think vice City has dated ? Haven't played it in a long time, but it is 5 years old.

For me it was the masterwork of the entire series, better than San Andreas. I played it so much, I thought I was Tommy Vercetti, even made restaraunt bookings and checked into hotels under that name.

I mean graphically its dated very badly, my little girl sometimes plays it and it might as well be 10yrs old but however the game play alone still makes it one of the best games to play but if they take that aspect and couple it up with COD4 type graphics then GTAIV will blow everything out the water.

I loved Vice City, I nearly bought a PS" just for that game, but luckly I held on and got the double disc version for the old Xbox.

But yeah I never came off it - top game and a true classic

I bought an xbox 360 and i've not played it that much. I find myself wanting to get into games, but then just no bothering.


I'm defintely going to play GTA4 if it's good though. San Andreas was the dogs baws.

If it keeps its great gameplay, whilst having graphics like Saints Row, it will be a belter.

Seems good to me, but not sure of all this premium console, arcade console stuff, and also the hard drive sizes vary - is this important? could people with experience enlighten me
