External hard drive advice - The Punters Lounge

Looking to get an external HD for my laptop as it only has an internal capacity of 80GB. Seen a couple around that seem decent value (Western Digital 500GB @ c£50; Toshiba 1TB at £70) but anyone got any recommendations?

Personally I would go for something like this.

I've always used western Digital wherever possible as I think they are a good hard drive.

Having networked storage saves the trouble of moving the external around with you and works connected to a wireless hub unless you want to take it to work.

You can get lighter laptop external USB HDs (LaCie) and these work off of the power of the laptop through the USB. The bigger ones run off of mains power. If you have e-SATA then that reads/writes very much faster.
