Default explorer.exe

Can anyone tell me the difference between IEXPLORE.exe and explorer.exe.

Just been looking at my task manager and both of these are taking up alot of my memory.

Thanks. JJ

IE is your internet browser JJ and Explorer is an essential task, like windows.

You can turn explorer off with task manager but you wont be able to do much unless you have another program running ie a game.

both essential processes for browsing though. If they are overly high maybe run a spyware and virus check.

Cheers Komp, as I am typing IE is using 25k, and explorer is using 5 1/2k, dont know if that is high or not. But he mentioned about javaw.exe being on there and it being high usage.

Looking thru sites it appears it is my bittorrent client azereus, so is there a none java written client that you, or anyone, can reccommend??

Thanks JJ.

I would recommned shadow experimental which you can get at http://www.bittornado.com/

I assume when you say you say 25k its 25 000 k and 5500 k.
Those values are fine. Of course it all depends on how much RAM you actually have ! THe bare minimum XP requirement is 128 meg but even at 256 meg I would say it can slow up a little. I would say at least 512 meg personally.
Occasionally explorer crashes or whatever, it should come back itself eventually but if it doesn't to get it back do a ctrl-alt-delete and choose file, new task. In the pop up window type "cmd" to get a DOS box up and then just type "explorer" hit return and it should appear. You can practice this if you want by bringing up task manager, clicking on explorer.exe and choosing end process. Your bar along the bottom will disappear, then do as I outlined above to get it back.

Cheers Alien, yeah I meant k of k, if you know what I mean lol:o I have 256mg RAM at the mo, but had a look inside to see what type it is and am gonna double the size, some time in the next week, it is a bit slow at the mo, cos I run azereus and it takes up so much DDR, so if I get rid of that double the size of the memory and get a seperate graphics card, i should be a little bit nearer to full capacity hopefully.

Cheers JJ.

explorer.exe runs windows GUI

without that you won't see windows full stop.

you can kill it and restart it in task manager by typing and select new task = explorer.exe
