Default Excel Tutorials/Books reccommendations?

Me again . . .

really getting into excel reently with my betting . . .

Just wondering if any of you nice chaps can reccommend any books or online tutorials to help me learn some of the more intermediate/advanced aspects of Excel, such as Pivotables, macros etc and to get external data from a website . . .

I have several potential 'systems' in my head, or more accuratley, selection methods, but would like to develop some sort of spreadsheet for the start of next season to help me run a few systems for the next football season.

Basically, i may be talking bollox, but is there a way of importing say league tables and running formale on them to create, say, ratings or chance of winning etc and making sure they are presented in an easy to understand etc? I'm assuming there must be?!

Anythign that'll help me get remotely close to the above would be an excellent start.

How did some of you more experienced guys learn?

Cheers in advance!

A good start IMO would be Excel for Dummies.

A lot of people laugh at these books but for a complete novice they put a lot in laymans terms.

Have you thought about night school?? Our local collage has some very good courses from beginner to expert.

First find the league table you want to import.
I use http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/table/default.stm
for the prem.

In excel 2003
Go to spreadsheet click A1
then go to Data > in the dropdown list> import external data > new web query.
You should then get a popup window, In the address bar put the above URL
and press go...
You should then have the page with the Prem league in it with a little black arrow in a yellow box just above the league (ignore the others).
Right click on the arrow and it turns into a tick in a green box then press import.
Another box will open asking where you want to put the data just click ok .
The table should be loaded in your sheet
You will then be able to write your formulas to extract what you need from the table.
When you want to update the table click anywhere inside the table and a red exclamation mark will appear in your toolbar, click that and the league table will be updated and so will your formulas results.
