will try to keep it simple.

cell S35 will either = 3 or 1 or 0

cell P35 will have a variable number, reliant on another cell

so why doesnt this work?
=IF(S35=3,"=(25-P35)*3",IF(S35=1,"=(25-P35)",IF(S35=0,"=(P35)*-1")))

is there something missing/wrong or can i not do the =xxxx as a result?

I presume you want the result of the formula displayed?

ie something like 39 instead of something like =(25-P35)

If so, remove the quotes and the =, so your formula should be something like:
=IF(S35=3,(25-P35)*3,IF(S35=1,(25-P35),IF(S35=0,(P35)*-1)))

cheers GaF - yeah - looking for the result rather than the formula to be left.

tried =IF(S35=3,(25-P35)*3,IF(S35=1,(25-P35),IF(S35=0,(P35)*-1)))
but its still returning FALSE

What are the values and formulas in P35 and S35?

I tried it and it worked for me.....

Maybe you have them stored as alpha, instead of numeric?

got it - you have text in either the P or S cells

don't use ="3" you need =3
so it sees a number instead of text

too slow again

p35 - =INDEX(A2:C25,MATCH("team02",A2:A25,0),3)

s35 - =IF(R35=3,"3",IF(R35=1,"1",IF(R35=0,"-1")))

sorry mate - didnt realise that would make the difference, so didnt mention it first time round.

the above 2 are working fine.

Remove the quotes in S35

=IF(R35=3,3,IF(R35=1,1,IF(R35=0,-1)))

and for the next question....

if i've got formulas in a column of cells, how do i c&p without the auomatic formula change thing?

ie copying

a4
b4
c4
d4

to paste
a4
b4
c4
d4

???

i'm kinda getting the feeling from the help thingy that i cant do this for multiple cells, but only one at a time? surely a program of this capability has a simple cut and paste facility without the fancy bits?

You need to "anchor" your original formula with the "$" sign

So $A$4 will always copy and paste as $A$4 ....

You can anchor just the column or row .... e.g. $A4 or A$4

Also - if you click on the cell reference you want to anchor and push "F4", it will toggle through the 4 anchoring options.....
