I have read on here that these things will play anything thrown at 'em, so I threw an old 78' at it and it didn't work LOL, sorry. No seriously, I tryed playing an AVI file on it and it said that the codec wasn't recognised. Will these things play AVI or not. (I brought it on the reccomendation by slick GRRR )I can still send it back, under the 30 day money back guarantee, my dvd player will play just about anything, just not the AVI files. Any help much appreciated.

JJ what player did u buy? If its an earlier version u can download the codecs from the manufacturers site and update the player. u sure the file is an avi? not just a file wth that extension shoved on the end? Put the disk in ure pc and right click it then look @ its properties post the results on here. Ive never yet found a movie file my player would not play.

I bought the one that you posted about, £50 on amazon. Unfortunately I am at work at the mo, I downloaded it using supanova/torrent, I will have a look at it when I get in, but am almost sure it is a avi file. I didn't know about updating the machine, that would be great, cos I don't really wanna send it back, cos the dvd player I have now will go in the bedroom, but if the divx won't play what I download, the missus says it has to go back. ![]()

Just been browsing other forums and it shoul dplay xvid by all accounts, if its asking for a codec then obviously it needs a firmware upgrade which medion are working on as to date none have been released but they are apparently in the pipeine. you can either hang on to it and hope its soon as no date has been mentioned but i would sent it back and get the yamada fot the little extra. Strange problem but i also read that a few of these machines have different chipsets from medion to medion even though they have the same model number. Im still waiting to hear from mickey to see if his plays xvid but like a say it should do........... www.dietk.com/forums/inde...topic=3822

Yep, just gonna return it, I am thinking by the sounds of it, I have a faulty 1. Amazon dont stock the yamda one you have, but have seen it on pixemania?? for £63 so only £13 more (and what it costs to send the 1st one back lol) Thanks for all the help, I will wait for a couple of days to do it, just incase mickey can shed any light. ![]()

Yep, plays Xvid although I have had one Xvid file it wouldn't play. Not sure what was different about this file but TMPGenc, media player etc wouldn't recognise it either and I eventually converted it to DivX with DivX doctor. Apart from that one, I haven't had any problems.

Right, had another that wouldn't play. Getting a 'codec not supported' message. It was another Xvid file too so the problem seems to be with them but most have played no problem so far. The medion doesn't actually advertise that it supports Xvid so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Hey guys good news, I downloaded another movie and it played. It was a divx file same as the other one but this one played. So I decided to play the other one but it didn't work, the codec wasnt supported (QPEL), does anyone know what the codec is, and how to find out if the file I am downloading is one. Cheers
