Default Defrag on win98

OkOk, so i know you will all say replace win98, but, while im skint, Haveing recently got 512k Broadband im getting a little pist off when my machine doesnt like doing 2 things at once and so freezes up,,,,, totaly......

ive tried running defrag, it works, it just says on 0% complete for ever..........

also on the subject, Since ive got BB, (pluged into a USB) my comp wont boot up, i have to unplug the USB until windows has loaded.....

Should i just put this comp in the bin and start over???

(or just stay using this massive connection ive got a t work :b )

could be your harddrive has bad sectors or is about to fail.

try running Scandisk with a surface scan on your drive to detect and fix and errors.

if it finds errors let it fix them and if there's bad sectors then that might explain why won't like defragging.

Also it could be a driver issue with the Broad Band modem and your USB. Also for the broadband you should check the Faq's on the Providers website to see what they say about windows 98 and it's devices.
