Default Can anyopne please help with this before i throw my computer out of the window!

Hey everyone, basically things have come to a head now with my computer and i need to sort it but dont know where to start.

When i start my computer up normally the eggtimer is constantly on when i hover the mouse over the task bar, it also will not open any of the icons on my desktop, i currently work in safe mode with networking but this disables alot of other programs and the speakers and also the printer. Ive tryed system restore but it wont find any points to restore from. If i try and alter the boot up settings the comp loads but the icons and taskbar just persist to flash on and off the screen at 5 second intervals which is fcuking annoying!.

I think the problem may of started when i rolled back internet explorer 7 to internet explorer 6, i hate i.e 7

Has anyone got any advice? I really am shite with computers

Hope someone can help me!

See whats starting up when you first log on,

start/run/ type "msconfig"

look at the tab "startup" and uncheck any items that are not needed, Quicktime, jusched, msmsgs etc.

I only have my anti virus on start up and it boots up nice and quick.

All i did was google them, i have qttask (quicktime) off, nwiz (nvidia updater) is off.

VVSN i belive is a form of spyware, see here http://forums.spywareinfo.com/lofive...hp/t14072.html tho you could have the whenu toolbar installed.

wkfud (microsoft works) can be disabled.

If in doubt google the others and of course scan with your anti virus and spybot software to make sure that nothing untoward is on your pc.

Download and run StartupList from here for a more detailed display:

http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php

HijackThis is always a good idea too.

Do a system scan with it, then paste the log into this webpage and it will advise what should be safe too delete etc:

Hey! thanks for the response guys, tried those but still not got much further im afraid, when i start up in normal mode the taskbar just keeps resetting itself every like 5 seconds and i dont know whats caused it,as a result i have to start up in safe mode with networking all the time, is there a way to like clear your hard drive but not all of it? coz ive got a wireless network set up off this comp so dont want to have to reinstall all that, plus i dont want to loose all the music and stuff i have on here at the mo

any ideas?

thanks

Saul - Download these two tools

Spybot search and destroy

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

And

Ad aware

http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-200...bj=dl&tag=top5

Run both these programs (You can run and install them both in safe mode) just follow the instructions and spybot you choose 'fix problems' once it's scanned and ad aware just follow the wizard once you've pressed finish once that has also scanned.

Once them two are done reboot your machine in normal mode and see how you get on, if things are working then I suggest you download the free version of AVG and install that straight away.

thanks for those beef, spybot seems to of done some good, however when i try and run adaware it says its not a valid win32 application, does anyone know what this means?

Plus now when i start up my computer in normal mode i get a message saying "application launcher" then underneath it says "unable to load configuration and my taskbar and icon try bit at the bottom will not work, constantly has an egg timer on it, has anyone ever experienced this before?

right, ive made some headway, i decided to reinstall internet explorer 7 as when i uninstalled it that was roughly when all the other problems started to happen.

voila, i am now able to start up in normal mode, and everything seems ok, but i am now left with all the reasons of why i uninstalled internet explorer 7 in the first place, its slow, shit and i dont like it, and the main reason, it wont let me download anything (right click and save target as) does anyone have any information on resloving this? Also i am seriously considering switching to firefox or other internet browsers, has anyone got any information that may help me?

thanks in advance for any help

Saul
