camcorder help

missus really wants one and with a big party coming up, gonna have to get one in june


2 problems:

a) i've no idea exactly what to look for or anything?
b) i've no money at all, so it's going on a credit card - thus i'll need a lower end of the market one


i dont really want to get one that has a shit picture, so will need to weigh up value-price.


I can look around and get a camcorder but wouldnt know if i'm getting a decent one or whether its good value so would appreciate some advice on either what to look for or whether anyone can recommend one they've got that didnt cost the earth.

My family has sort of got a 'pool' one which any of use when it's a special occasion. I think it's this one (can check for you for exact model # if you liked?). We have had no problems with it at all and it shoots some decent quality stuff, as well as been small enough to whip out unnoticed.

Have you thought. If money is tight mate, you could hire one for the week? One of my pals did that and it wasnt much at all.

hadnt even thought about hire, although it would be good to have one to hand for when the kids start to provide embaressing moments for when their older.

I have always used sony camcorders and found them to be very good. They come in a range of prices and even the cheap ones tend to outperform more expensive ones from other makers. This is primarily due to the quality of the lens.

If I were to buy one now I'd try to afford a Hi-Def one, you're looking at about £600 but absolutely fantastic image quality and fairly future proof.

I suppose then you can get a feel as to which features you'd like on your bought one etc etc
