Default Bit of a stange one this.....

I've been unable to log into my yahoo email account for the last 3 days. After I put in my details and click submit, it tells me the server cannot be found.

I don't think it's an issue with my computer, as I logged into my girlfriend's yahoo account this morning fine. I've requested help from the yahoo pages, but I'm not expected much as they usually tell you the obvious.

Any of you IT guru's got any ideas?

Have a look at your Hosts file.
It is found at something like
cwindows\sys32\ drivers etc

Open the Hosts file with Wordpad and search for yahoo.

The IP address should NOT be 127.0.0.1 which is used to block bad sites.

Don't edit the file just close it.

Run your anti-spyware software eg Adaware, Spybot S&D, AVG in case someone is trying to hijack your webpages.

It may be a problem with the file stored at your ISP.
It may be that you internet cache is full and needs to cleared via the Tools menu. Download CCleaner as good freeware for this.

Go into Start/Run
type cmd
type ping www.yahoo.com

You should normally get something like a response time of 44 milliseconds and no packets of data lost. (Yahoo has an IP address of 87.248.113.14).

next trace the route by typing
tracert www.yahoo.com

This will give you all the hops from your PC to the Yahoo server - again total should be so many milliseconds. If any hop takes a long time then this is where a server in the loop is malfunctioning and you have to contact your ISP to get it corrected.

Thanks for your help on this Robert, I'll give them a go, but I'm not sure if the problem is actually with my computer.

I've managed to log into my girlfriend's yahoo account from my pc, and I've also been unable to log into my yahoo account from my work pc.

There is a contact point at:

http://help.yahoo.com/l/uk/yahoo/mai...tus/index.html

Your account may be deactivated if you have not used it for 4 months or it may be corrupted.

You can ping and tracert the above link also.

Thanks for your help Robert.

I spoke to Yahoo and there was a problem with the server that my account was on. They switched me on to another server and now it's all sorted.
