Question Your thoughts on this please.... sectarian or not?

I am interested to see what people's thoughts are on this matter.

Obviously, I know what my thoughts are, but to the general public, what do you think?

If a song/chant (which may, or may not be sung by supporters of a particular football club/s) were to contain the terms IRA, or UVF, would that be a sectarian song/chant?

Its a simple yes/no question I guess...

Cheers

Have never been deeply into Irish politics so I'll just have to leave this to those with a greater depth of understanding than me...but I'd be interested to know just what % of the English general public also don't fully understand what sectarianism is.

Yeah it's sectarian IMHO. I remember seeing a coachload of celtic fans on their way to a european match and I couldnt believe how vile their IR/A themed tshirts were, this was a few years ago though and Id naively hope after 10 years of relative peace in N Ireland both sides are a bit more relaxed and have their rivalry in proprtion.

Sectarianism is not simply linked to Irish politics, far from it.

By the way. This IS NOT to turn into a slanging match between Celtic/Rangers. That IS NOT the intention of this thread.

I am interested to see what people think about the matter...

Me too - also don't know what UVF is. Also don't know why the Irish stuff would be about Celtic and Rangers.

Mmm, bye

i voted no, although some songs from both sides will clearly do, if the song is a reference to the particular groups mentioned and do not mention the other side in there song then no.

Don't know the answer to the question, other than to say the person singing it was a fcukwit, in fact outwidth of Scottish and Irish people i'm not sure anyone else would care.

I don't know about that AJ...

At England matches you can clearly hear people referring to the IRA in chants... Is this sectarian??? Or, do the people who join in with these chants simply not know/understand what they are saying...?

Nah mate, it's no different to people making bomber noises and singing the dambusters theme when playing the germans. doesn't mean they hate Germans

95% of people at an England game wouldn't sing this kinda thing, just the neo nazis. The IRA is history, the war is over, they won.

time to move on and forget about it

FYI

UDA - ulster defence association

UVF - ulster volunteer force

UFF - ulster freedom fighters - smaller division of the UDA

IRA - well we all know that

PIRA - provisional irish republican army

Alex this may be a topic that may divert from its purpose m8

I hope not, and if it does I'll just remove it...

I am just curious as to what peoples' perceptions are of the whole topic.

AJ. I couldn't agree more. You are probably right however, this is still a kind of Scottish thing.
