Default Workaround required for Rip-off Britain

The difference between the cost of clothing on an American website compared to their UK site is outrageous. Can anyone advise how to purchase from their American site instead of being bounced back to the UK site? Tried a proxy using cooleasy.com which allowed us to see the American site, but there seems may be a java issue and we cannot purchase anything.

abercrombie.com once you get past their intro pages takes you to uk.abercrombie.com so i can't get into womenswear (please don't say it )

A top that costs $49 costs £50 on the UK site.

Any ideas? Or how to get the proxy to work? I was told that when trying to "add to basket", after she pressed the button, it thought for a bit then just left the button greyed out and couldn't press it again. Same result on different products.

Can't test it as i'm at work right now and our IT people go bananas when you try using proxies etc.

Any advice / solutions / tips most welcome.

i was thinking about this - surely if you are using a website then there will be a telephone number to ring and place an order? may work out not worth it if you get stuck in call queues but if you know what you want (checked on internet) and especially if buying a few items it may be a damn site easier. (only drawback would be sending stuff back if you dont like it/it doesnt fit etc)

Thanks David

I talked to Sarah-Jane, but there are a few people in the states that she can ask to ship the stuff to. Not sure if it was me saying she could send her undergarments to you that put her off, but she said she appreciated the offer

I think she'll try phoning in the order to the states and sending to one of her "contacts". Failing that she'll take a note of the product ID's and ask them to order online for her.

Thanks for the ideas and offers.

We went to a Nike store a couple of days ago to get the kids some new trainers, eldest lad got a pair of air jordan basketball trainers, youngest got 2 pairs, 1 pair of "normal" nike trainers and 1 pair of basketball trainers. with a couple of tops as well the total came to just over $120

With the £ so strong still at the moment that's about £60

Cars ? Dont get me started Loads of adverts on the tv here and there are also soooo cheap, Fancy a big pick up ? $30,000 .

it is annoying - went to the outlet centre in vegas last month and got nike golf shoes for $39 bout 20 quid, that would rush you over £100 here - lacoste, armani t-shirts etc.. I bought where about a 3rd of the price you pay here !

Got a taylor-made driver for $280 that costs £350 here !!

Find your local drug dealer.

Ask him what park bench his poorest client lives on. Go and tell him what you want and he'll nick it at no risk to you. You get it at a big discount, and it saves some old dear from geting mugged.

Result all round.

Went to the premium outlet mall today.

1st stop Reebok store. As we entered we were given a 40% discount voucher. 2 pairs of trainers for me,1 pair for Nikki (buy 2 pairs, get 3rd pair free ! ). 2 tops and total bill came to $105 (£50ish)

2nd stop Sunglass Hut. pair of Oakley Flak Jackets for me ($140) and pair of Oakleys for Nikki ($80), total bill $220 (£110ish)

3rd stop Levi store. 2 pairs of Levi jeans each for the boys,1 belt, handbag for Nikki. total bill $102 (£51ish)

Going back next week for another visit to Nike,Adidas and Timberland

Have looked in a couple of golf stores and can pick up Callaway x20 iron set for about $700 or Callaway Big Bertha iron set for about $550.

How the hell can prices be so much in the UK
