Default Where the fcuks my fcuking train?

Another tube strike planned (and yes I know it looks like being called off, but we'll ignore that fact )

So it's just a great excuse to put this classic up again:

Got about 5-6 of their songs on my mp3 player.

Another real good one if you get to hear it is "When you were nothing at all"

Well enough done I suppose, not sure Paul Weller would approve of his work being used like this

Poncy middle class twats, why shouldn't tube drivers make a living wage, London is a bloody expensive place to live go the workers

I remember a few years ago when the Fire Brigade and the Tube drivers were on strike at the same time and was shocked to learn that tube drivers earnt significantly more - I know that I value Firemen far more highly than tube drivers and consider firsmen to be far more highly skilled, and doing a more dangerous (and disturbing) job - I can see little justification for paying tube drivers more

but that means firemen are underpaid, not tube drivers over.

Driving a train must be pretty difficult though ? I'd guess bus drivers make about the same.

Surely driving a bus is harder? You have to actually make decisions slightly more complicated than faster/slower. Plus you have to converse with the scum that get on buses.

I drove a Metro train during a school trip when I was like 13 - one big lever for faster/slower, trained monkey could do it

But salaries are comparative - you could increase everyone's salary by £100,000 tomorrow, but all that would do is hit inflation and everyone is back where they started (ok I know it's nowhere near as simple as that, but I stand by the principal...

Tube drivers, with the increase this month will be earning all but £40,000.

Quote:
Currently £38,311 until April, when it increases in line with February's RPI + 0.6% or else by 3%, whichever is greater. There is also the possibility of a bonus based on the results of a customer satisfaction survey, but no drivers I know ever count on receiving it as there are too many factors beyond their control. Newly qualified drivers get the full amount, the same as their more experienced colleagues. Drivers still in training get a reduced amount. Instructor Operators get about £1,000 more.
I view that as a pretty decent salary for a tube driver (i.e. I think they're overpaid)

For driving at high speeds in a tunnel in the dark?

Would you do it?

As opposed to lying in bed all night and getting paid for it?

I believe the common greeting by ambulance drivers/paramedics when the fire brigade turn up at an incident is, "Get you out of bed did we?".

Do you think £40k per annum is a poor enough wage for tube drivers to strike over? (Ok, technically this strike is over "Transfers and pensions", but enough of their strikes are about salary)

I'd be happy to be on that much money, but I'm not sure I could do that job.

When you're in a tunnel you're in charge of your own darkness, that's a lot of responsibility.

I went for a job as a tube driver but when I turned it down the bloke asked me why.

I said 'If I'm driving the last train and end up in west London...

HOW THE FCUK DO I GET HOME ???? '
