Default Whats on your bookshelf?

Me and the missus went for a stroll around the bar walls tonight and i took my camera. Was messing about with some settings when I got back and took a load of random shots, one being of one corner of my bookshelf, I downloaded all the photos and thought . . .this could make an interesting thread, so here we go, Whats on your bookshelf?

We have books all over the house so this is just one small part of the bookshelf - - - hang on, looking at those, I think i may be a geek!

Mate, don't you get a question about the Hitler book when somebody comes in your room for the first time? Is it an interesting read? It's huge and yet only covers Hitler's life up until 1936 if I am right.

I think they are probably too busy staring at the big Nazi flag he has over the fireplace.

I've just read "We need to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver, absolutely fantastic book and would highly reccomend it for the PL book club, plenty to talk about once you've read it and there are actually discussion questions in the back of the book. Had to persevere with it as it was quite hard to get into but it gets better all the way through and has a nice twist at the end. Won the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2005 apparently, I got it for about £6 from Tesco and one of the best books I've bought.

All the characters are really believable, it's loosely based on all the school killings in USA such as Columbine and the son ends up killing school pals and a teacher, the story kind of explores if the parents are to blame and how he has been an evil little bast@rd from a young age, often making you question the nature/nurture debate and if it could have been prevented. Anyone else read it?

On my bookshelf I have:
Boxing Greats - Steve Bunce
Terrace Legends - Cass Pennant and Martin King
No Baloney - Frank Maloney
The Real McCall - Stuart McCall
Hillsborough (The Truth) - Phil Scraton
Prince Of The Ring (Naseem Hamed Story) - Gavin Evans

Four Minutes To Hell - Paul Firth

What an interesting topic Guy.

My bookshelf is a fcuking disgrace!!

Dont worry, Im not an ubber geek-
there just all text books for my computing and electronics course!!
(read once then generally dismissed, so believe me, not purchased through choice)

But I do have a couple of books I actually look at, which are fictional: To Kill A Mockingbird and The Man in the Moss/ Crybbe by Phil Rickman.
Always mean to get more and read more, but never come round to actually doing it.

Have 2 decent size bookcases full and loads of boxes full of all sorts of stuff.

My mother works for a publishers and a bookshop so i get given loads of uncorrected proofs and 2nds, books with covers missing etc.

Not a big reader of books (surprise surprise) but I do have a few.

The world war ones are what my grandad left, maybe they are worth something? I dunno. Ive a brief look at them and they are brilliant to read.

Id like to see them goto a good home one day to someone who will appreciate them better.

most of my books are boxed up waiting to go to the charity shop, I have a stupid amount of them, I think thats because I read rather than watch TV.

Trying to post pictures but they turn out huge

This is a selection of my football programme collection, I am a bit anal when it comes to my football programmes. The valuable ones (seen here) are in individual plastic sleeves in ring biders in date and home team order.

They date from the 1940's and I have literally thousands. They are worth a fortune but they dont half take up some space.

I started collecting in the mid 1980 when you could pick them up at a decent price and due to the popularity of football at the moment they have rocketted in value.

I also did a bit of trading, buying in bulk at specialist auctions, saving what I wanted for my collection and selling the rest on ebay...... I honestly considered leaving work and doing that fulll time.

I've got the other Hitler book by Ian Kershaw, Nemesis, the red and black one. My other Nazi book is Hitler's Scientists - John Cornwell, both were bought when I was studying A-level History at school.

The vast majority of books on my shelf are old Genetics, Ecology, Biology and Conservation books from my degree. I really do need to get rid of em but I won't bore people by listing titles here. Like has been said above, must look a bit weird to people visiting the house!

Novel wise I've got all the Dan Brown books on there, Next - Michael Crighton - and two by Sam Bourne - the Righteous Men and The Last Testament. I also started to buy a few Bradford City books to read up on the history of my team. The Bradford City Story, Bradford City legends and Jamie Lawrence's autobiography from Prison to the Premiership are the three I own.

The only other books I can think of are The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins - now that is a good book but I found it a little heavy at times and I haven't picked it up for a while. I also got the Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins as a gift recently, but not picked it up yet.

Next book on my shopping list....Dean Windass' autobiography, from Gypsyville to the Premiership.
