What do you grow on your allotment?

Do you save much money by growing your own?

Leeks are one of my really favourite veg.The flavour generally becomes milder as they increase in size.

Leek and potato soup is superb for a simple dish.

Leek and Stilton bake is perhaps my favourite.

Finely sliced lengthwise, 1" pieces of leek mixed with a few drops of balsamic vinegar, and allowed to stand for a few minutes.Give a quick stir and sprinkle over any salad.

What other veg. do you grow?

I haven't got nearly enough space for what i want to grow, so i alternate each year between Carrots, Beetroot, Onions, Leek, Cabbage, anything i can really.

But i do grow the same four things under cover every year, as these make up the main part of our daily salad dish, so i have always got Tomatoes, Lettuce, Radish and Cucumber on the go.

So right now i am picking:

Cucumber
Type: Marketmore
Seeds : 25
Cost: 0.69p

Lettuce
Type: Webbs Wonderful
Seeds : 950
Cost: 0.49p

Radish
Type: French Breakfast 3
Seeds : 500
Cost: 0.49p

Tomatoe
Type: Cherry
Seeds : 15
Cost: £2.49

All washed down with the odd now an then

I think with all the flooding in the UK this year we will be looking at price increases for most Vegetables.

Fruit should be ok though. I know from my Apple trees and Plum that there is a real glut of fruit this year.

In fact i have had to cut myself some timber and prop up some of the main branches of my Plum tree, because they have that many fruit on they looked in danger of snapping !
