I bought this up before and thought it was a good idea. A bit of a laugh, not too expensive if there are 50 of us on board, and a good way of advertising. As long as folk dont get involved in a bid to make money (as that simply wont happen), then this could easily be done. I have already got a very small share in a racehorse, and although I own next to nothing, I can still get badges when it runs, and its a right buzz watching it go...

I would definately be interested in 'Punterslounge.com'...

Basically, the average running cost would be £20000 per year. If we use a £9000 horse for these calculations:

For 25 members:

1st year: £1160 p/a or £96.67 p/m
2nd year: £800 p/a or £66.67p/m

For 50 members:

1st year: £580 p/a or £48.33 p/m
2nd year: £400 p/a or £33.33 p/m

For 75 members:

1st year: £386.66 p/a or £32.22 p/m
2nd year: £266.67 p/a or £22.22 p/m

For 100 mebers:

1st year: £290 p/a or £24.17 p/m
2nd year: £200 p/a or £16.67 p/m

These are just rough figures but should be quite accurate. After the first year of payments, the horse would be completely paid for.

What do you guys think of these prices.

Would it be possible for one of the mods to add a poll onto the thread asking wether anyone is still interested after seeing the prices. I think we need about 50 members and probably a minimum contract of 12 months to make it feesible.

1. maximum £50 per month +

2. maxiumum £40 per month +

3. maximum £30 per month +

4. maximium £20 per month +

5. under £20 per month

Yeah I agree, if we can get a rough idea of prices people are willing to pay and the amount of potential members, it should become clear wether it is possible.

You cant change a racehorse's name so if you wanted 'Punters Lounge' included it would mean buying a un-named 2 y o from the sales which are too expensive for this purpose.
Cheapest way is to buy an older horse for a bit of fun between PL members. The one at Uttoxeter we saw went for 5 grand only.
Could still call the syndicate punters lounge to get a bit of advertising if it won or something.

You sure about that Graham? I'm sure we did that with a horse I previously part owned, but maybe I am mistaken.

I don't know if its relevant but I think AvonGirl and Runadrum have experience in race horse trading.

I think they're on their holidays right now but should be back soon.

I'd suggest waiting for them to come back and picking their brains.

May be worth considering a flat horse for the AW, might be cheaper to run TBH.

£5k wont get you much these days. My old man paid £24k for his horse, it ran 8 times then got injured & thats the end of it.

I might be well out with the £5k estimate but you can google the sales & see what they go for.
5k is about the price for a selling class horse.

I would much rather spend my money joining a National Stud Breeding Club where there is a chance of geting a good horse.

I've been involved in a few, with about 6 - 8 of us as sole owners. It's a very expensive hobby when there's so few.

We did the basic sums at the start and basically you can double it with vets fees, worming, shoeing, vacinations etc etc.

A horse goes through more shoes than Imelda Marcos!

I would, however, be interested if there were a good few involved.

Come on guys, with 12 people this isnt going to be happening. Remember, this is just so we can get an idea, no one is going to hold you to your vote. Even if you come on and vote no it helps us as it allows us to decide that this isnt going to work.
