I thought about a political/cold war thriller by a writer called Nelson De Mille, but I've decided to go for another of his books.

So.

The book for the month of March is...

Gold Coast by Nelson De-Mille.

Hope you enjoy it.

Apologies folks, I did buy and read "Fatherland" but didn't get chance to share my thoughts.
Lately I seem to be living my life around other peoples plans and never get the chance to
catch up with my own!
An excellent read, despite that a dark subject matter was always in the back of your mind.
Was anyone else almost taken in by Artur Nebe's trap at the end?
I think I would have been had I been Xavier March just knowing that the painful torture would have subsided.
I think though that the pain he endured made him focus on who had decieved him and eventually he came to Jaeger as the answer, so the fact that Jaeger was in the car at the end would have made me realise Nebe's plot.
I smiled too the other day when reading the papers about some of the lost "spoils of war" only just coming to light, especially some of the old masters.

Despite having the read the book many a moon ago I almost feel like i'm losing out from being able to discuss this properly as can't seem to remember shit!! Who was Artur Nebe again?

Artur Nebe was the head of the KriminalPolizei(sp), and March's boss. He reminded me of the Cancer Man out of the X Files to an extent.

I must be honest I was taken in by the trap at the end and it was a nice twist.

Regarding Gold Coast... I'd best add that I'm about 100 odd pages in out of around 600+ and I'd forgotten it was quite slow moving, but worth trawling through.

Gotta admit that i've fallen a little far behind on this one so far. Struggle with a book until I really get into it and this one i'm just hovering round the edges of interest.

Still only on page 50

But I have been throwing my money away on Cheltenham last couple days and so fairly preoccupied

May have been easier to take it outside and throw it in the gutter.

170ish pages in now, it's just slowly starting to liven up after a (very?) slow start . . . starting to enjoy it.

Listen, I wouldn't blame any of you if you gave up on it, honestly.

I prefer one of Demille's other novels and was going to suggest that one, but its about the CIA in Russia and I felt it was maybe a bit too similar to Fatherland in subject matter.

If you think its shite then say so, I don't mind.

I know how it ends.

Totally agree - sharp and humourous. Very good. Getting well stuck into it now.
