I really like the Wombats atm - www.myspace.com/thewombatsuk has Let's Dance To Joy Division, which is really good. Think Pigeon Detectives meet Belle and Sebastian.

iLiKETRAiNS are a wonderful band so thought i'd post one of their best up here.

I've heard people talking about how there's no-one like Dylan or Lennon being interesting in music anymore. Well these guys are. They are inspired by history and this song; Terra Nova, is about Scott's tragic journey to the North Pole.

Dave Martin's voice won't be to everyone's taste but I genuinely find this song so uplifting. Cracking video too!

Just downloading I'm Not There, the soundtrack to the new Dylan film, from Napster, what I've heard is awesome - Stephen Malkmus's upbeat Maggie's Farm is cool, Antony and the Johnsons doing Knockin' On Heaven's Door is gorgeous, and Charlotte Gainsbourg's ethereal vocals on Just Like A Woman are breathtaking. (And hey, I've waited YEARS to use ethereal in a sentence!)

Vedder, McGuinn, Willie Nelson, Cat Power, Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady, Sufjan Stevens and Iron And Wine are amongst the others on, and a massive range of songs, from the big stuff like All Along The Watchtower and Highway 61 Revisited to more obscure ones like Can You Please Crawl Out Your Window.

Been listening to Glasvegas, hard to describe them.

It's kinda Phil Spector wall of sound surf pop, but with a slightly Arctic Monkeys edge

http://www.myspace.com/glasvegas

Unsigned, but going to be massive in a few months I think.

I'm still undecided about gorillaz, have to listen to it a bit more first

the song the album named after is the best on this one. Top song.

Also a group still around, the Delays, are well worth a listen. Long time coming is a classic tune.

My favourite band, release their new album. Fantastic, had it on promo for a while now but there really is no other band like them. Give them a try.

From UK press coverage of the album Do You Like Rock Music?:

“Brilliant songs... Stirring anthemics... The glorious sound of a band going for broke.” The Guardian ****

“The unity and sweep of a great film or novel... So sublime it brings a tear to the eye.” Independent On Sunday

“Ambitious, impressive and genuinely moving… chock full of epic music and seductive melodies.” Q magazine ****

“A masterpiece of epic proportions.” The Word magazine

“Steamrollering rock... like a Sherman tank.” The Times ****

“Genius… a guitar laureate’s masterpiece.” Maxim *****

“The first great guitar album of 2008.” Daily Mail *****

“British Sea Power return in style.” Mojo ****

“The most original and enthralling mix of guitar, drums and orchestra since the Flaming Lips’ Soft Bulletin.” Sunday Express *****

“Dangerously epic... it rocks.” Daily Telegraph

“Every track could be a summer festival anthem.” The Sun ****

“Exceptional.” Metro ****

“First contender for album of 2008.” Clash

What else are you going to spend your money on? Food? A knighthood? Oscar de la Renta salopettes for daughter Bluebell? Don’t be silly.

#4 in the BBC's 'Sound of 2008' poll thingymajiiger:

4. GLASVEGAS

Daddy's Gone by Glasvegas

They are: A Glaswegian four-piece who play vintage rock and pop with brooding guitars, like the Jesus and Mary Chain covering the Grease soundtrack.

NME magazine said they had put out the best debut single since the Arctic Monkeys.
The pundits say: "Glasvegas already sound like a classic band." Jonas Woost, Last.FM head of music
They say: "There's something really authentic about a lot of doo-wop and '50s rock 'n' roll.

Reverend and The Makers - Sunday 24/02/08 - Bradford University
Went to this gig last night and they didn't fail to impress me. The support act were called Twisted Wheel and I didn't really enjoy them, it was relentless strumming and drumming but sounded like a very poor arctic monkeys, didn't think much to the vocals or lyrics and most of the songs sounded the same, wouldn't rush to see them again.

Main act did not get on stage till 9.30pm but was well worth the wait. They ran through songs from The State of Things and I believe they threw some new ones in. I've got the album but haven't actually listened to it before the gig so only knew about 3 or 4 songs but the atmosphere was spot on.

I was stood right at the front jumping up and down like a loon and sweating like a paedophile in a playground, my bloody calfs are killing today and my feet are sore. The music sounded very good, vocals were spot on and he is a very good front man, really got the crowd going.

At the end of the gig the lead singer got off the stage and said he was going to play some songs outside. As he went to the exit the fans followed and it was like the Pied Piper. He was stood on a grassy hill that is on the uni campus near all the halls of residence with his acoustic guitar and had a trumpeter with him. As we got outside we were treated to a rendition of Jammin by Bob Marley with just the singer, his guitar and the trumpeter and all the fans surrounding him singing along and filming it on their mobiles. The most bizarre end to a concert I've ever seen but apparently something they are quite famous for now, finishing the show with a "street gig". We stayed and watched a few songs but then went for a taxi as it was about 11.15pm and we had to pick the baby up from my parents.

I'll have a look on youtube as there are bound to be some videos on there and i'll post the links on here. A great band live, full of energy and definitely one to put on your "to see" list.

I saw these guys when they supported The Fray and they were the best support act I've seen in a long time:
