Without knowing what prices you laid @ and @ how much, Im a bit in the dark here to say the least.
But from a few calcs Ive made it looks like you have laid the 1.71 for the full stake of 40 instead of 20 , then laid the 1.61 for the full stake of 40 which would then offset the red up to read a larger negative on the origional player you backed.

( cocked up my own example )

Dont know if you use it but under options click the display "what if" box
this will show you the outcome before you click the submit button.It can save a lot of grief
