Default Betting Records.... Excel

I am sure that there are some people here that use excel as a means of keeping track of their bets... using it's formula's to create an easy to use spreadsheet that automatically calculates Profit/Loss, ROI, etc. I pose this questions for a few reasons...

Curiosity. I know people use them for systems... Madness etc however I know there are some pretty talented Excel users out there and it certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility that some people run all of their betting activity through a spreadsheet (becomes especially useful when you have 8 different betting accounts).

Self Help. Or rather looking for help... I have my own spreadsheet but due to my lack of experience with Excel it only uses basic formula and What If statements to calculate... and it hardly looks pretty... maybe a pointer or two on layout/ formatting/ ideas regarding more advanced Excel features that could make it overall more usable... something specific would be hiding formula/ locking cells... changing colour of text depending on the contents of the cell... all silly stuff a Muppet like me doesn't know...

...anyway here is my latest version... it's records only start from June so there aren't many bets there.... I would delete them but I really don't care too much... feel free to post/ Pm me any examples of your own if thats easier for you...

Edit: the only example of how I work the basic stats is under the tab 'Other Football'....

Hi there, just joined up so I can chat about this, I love using excel, do so in my work, and can certainly work on this with you.

Having had a quick look at it, do you want to keep all the areas separate in terms of your stats etc, or merge it all into one sheet? Ie having Rugby Tennis football etc on one page, but still selectable as individual events for stats?

Important to have some good spreadsheets, Mak. Not just for recording bets, either. Unfortunately (apart from TheMax) this place is as useful as tits on a bull sometimes.

I'm self employed and do spreadsheets as my main business, I'm also into my betting as well so might be able to help.

If you want to hide your formulas you need to remove the protection from the cells you want to be able to update and also make the cells with the formulas in Hidden. To do this select the cells you want to be able to change, right click with the mouse, go to the Protection tab and remove the Locked tick and then ok. To hide your formulas, select the cells with them in, do as above to get to the Protection tab and make sure both Locked & Hidden are both ticked. Now you need to go to Tools - Protection - Protect Sheet. Enter a password if you want. Now when you put a cell with a formula is selected it will just show a blank in the formula bar.

To change cell colours depending on what's in a cell you have to use Conditional Formatting. If you want to do it by a formula eg if A2 is less than 5 then make the cell red, you need to select the cell you want to change and in the conditional formatting put in =A2<5 (rather than doing =if) in the Formula Is bit and then click on the format to select the colour.
