Default Using betfair

Hi guys, while i've been gambling a while now i signed up to betfair yesterday to see what all the fuss was, but after sigining up i found some things to be quite hard to understand so i was wondering if anyone could explain this site a bit better.

I understand about backin and laying, what i dont get is for example below:
Total selections17)
GBP
Back Lay

0 - 0

11.5

£76

15

£17

15.5

£14

16

£20

16.5

£17

17.5

£10

why does it give me 3 different values for the lay part?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

the reason it shows you 3 is if you wanted to lay £20 @ 16 that would be ok (1st value)
if you wanted to lay £37 then you would only be able to lay £20 @ 16 then the rest (£17) would have to be laid @ 16.5 etc

Thanks so far - i made my first mistake yesterday...i was putting £20 on Seattle to beat San Antonio at 9/2 and then when i was placing it it allowed me to increase the odds so i did....so checkin results this morning i see Seattle did win so i go to my account to check for my winnings and their not there - i now realise the odds i increased it to had to be matched by someone else and no one did so i ended up with nothing!

Gutted - but very valueable lesson learned!!

Kind of got the hang of it now!

Actually, what happened was not exactly your mistake, you just didn't realise the odds you posted didn't have to be matched by anyone so thought you were on. My advice with US sports would be - take the available odds or go elsewhere if they are too short (quite often). Betfair is not the best place for US sports or some other sports which are not exactly mainstream (I mean BF is excellent for footy, horse racing, sometimes tennis and some other sports, but that's about it, you'll get much better deals for special bets and, say, curling or ski jumping, elsewhere - after some shopping around).
