Default Sportingbet

I had Valencia to win in a bet the other night, when the game was abandoned after Valencia had been awarded a penalty while the scores were at 1-1 in the 81st minute I believe.

Sporting bet say that this bet is a loser, they won't void it like very other bookmaker has and I have lost money.

Any advice guys??

Cheers,

YG

Admittedly a stupid decision by them but they do have this in their rules
Quote:
4.3 The result of a match (for all European sports other than Soccer) will stand for betting purposes when it is abandoned after the start of the second half. Abandonment prior to this will cause the event to be voided and stake money refunded. For Soccer, a game must be played for 80 minutes for bets to stand. See US Sports Section for specific variations.

Looks like you have been beaten by a couple of minutes.

Looks like I've lost out....

Suppose it is in their rules, and i've complained til I'm blue in th face, but i won't get anywhere...

To say I'm a bit infuriated now is an understatement.

Oh well, hit them where it hurts I suppose,

Its enough motivation to win some back i suppose!

Cheers guys

I suppose we could act all smug and say it is your responsibility to read the rules but who does? I know I don't and one day may be in your position. :o It's a rare event but hard lines anyway.

Everyone here knows my opinion about Sportingbet before now, but this is a new low which they have managed to dip down to. I always read the rules, but I must admit that this particular rule would have supprised me. It is standard practice for ALL bookmakers to void in a Suspended or abandoned game. This is simply a disgrase, and the only thing that I can say is that this bookmaker should not be supported. The only advice I can give you is to withdraw your funds and never bet which these people again. It simply is not worth betting a with a bookmaker who introduces rules that no other bookmaker has.

Default A couple of hypothetical questions.

If the game had been abandoned with the result in your favour you would have been pleasantly surprised to find your account credited with your winnings and not a stake refund. Would you have posted here praising them?

If you had learned of the rule prior to placing your bet would you have considered the risk of the game being abandoned after 80 minutes with the result against you not worth taking and placed the bet elsewhere?

Why there can't Sportingbet adjust their rules to those of everyother bookmaker that I am aware of. Maybe they have other rules that would affect other situations that we are also not aware of. I like knowing the rules of a bet and I would certainly have no interest in learing Sportingbets rules, all on their own. In everyother bookmaker that I am aware of, if a game is suspended or abandoned, then the bet is void.

Correct, same rules everywhere is what the punter wants. Perhaps we will see that enforced together with a legal liability to honour bets by a future government or is that too much to hope for?

I have to admit that you do have a point in what you say odds, had Valencia been leading and the shoe been on the other foot I wouldnt be complaining!

Still, the fact that Valencia had been awarded a penalty is still playing on my mind, and sportingbet could have been a little more understanding.

I suppose its one of those freak things that happens, only this time I got burned by it. Typical!

All I can say is that I intend to win the money back, and this incident has further motivated me to make it back.. and more.

Thanks for all your input guys, I'm a little more chilled now!
