Default the slow count

I started working for a bookmakers a few weeks ago and they have told me about to watch out for guys doing "the slow count" .ie a guy comes up with his bet just at the off and has say trap 6 on it,there might be some other combination type bets for small amountsto slow down the cashier aswell, when she asks for the money he is listening to the race and then pretends not to be able to find his money or drops it or something to waste time, then if he hears that his dog is doing well he wastes a bit more time until he is sure it will win and hands over the money,if it is doing badly he says "o i cant find it i will get it from my car" then he leaves and is never seen again!

There is also the one where he hands over a bet at the off but there is no trap no. written on it.Then if the cashier stamps it he than says @o no i forgot to write my dog on it give me back the white bit,but of course he is listening the the race and writes the dog that is leading!"
There are loads of other scams but i wondered are they all that common? They told me that there are gangs making a living off this kind of stuff!!!

Default the slow count

I can see how the first scam could work.

I only bet over internet, so I don't know how the "traditional" bookies are working, but shouldn't their system protect them against the second scam by blocking all bets after the race started?

I've heard a few stories about this scam. The best one was about a bloke who did it on a greyhound race. His selection looked like it was gonna lose, so he legged it out of the bookies. A few minutes later he was passed by a fellow punter. He recognised the bloke and said, "Are you not gonna go and collect your winnings mate, that dog of yours made a late run and came first."

Probably an urban myth, but it made me laugh.

Default you would be supried what you can get away with

This is NOT an urban myth!
And the bookies cant blocked it as the bet IS put on before the race, the guy just pretends to not know where his money is to waste time.can happen to any punter easily, but this guy is listening to the race at the same time.
I advise all internet bettors to gt out from behind your PCs and take an interest in real world for a bit.Go and look at the dog racing, when you see a dog that explodes out of the tracks most of the time that dog wins.
I was in a bookies today just observing,I was at the counter checking prices. The cashier was dealing with an old guy that had brought in all his lottery numbers, well a dog race went off in the background and the cashier did not even notice it.
I am going to go in during the week and check how close to the start of a dog race i can get a bet on,just a little experiment on my part
I hope this slow counters and tricksters come in to where i work it will be a laugh trying to catch them out.
I have already caught guys trying to get a previous price just after it has fallen and wrong prices written on slips.fair play to them! always worth a shot!
Really have to have your wits about you in this job, better than working in a boring office anyway

Default The Slow count

I didn't mean the slow count is an an urban myth (I know various people have tried that on) I meant the story I gave.

It must be pretty difficult to get a bet on. Aren't bookies supposed to stop taking bets once the hare's running?

Default Tru!

Had people try it on me loads of times.

Not blowin my own trumpet, but used to see it comin a mile off. Just told em I was only taken bets up to the bell....

They soon realise if your switched on and try it with some other mug down the road.

The only time I got done was when I told my fat useless bitch cashier exactly what this complete stranger would try and sure enough he did.... Silly beeeatch!!

People can get done for it tho if u can prove it. Presonally never got the Police involved for Slow Counts.

Nowadays bookmakers network one another and let everyone in the area kno if sum1 is tryin it on.

Generally the swindlers will only swindle mugs and tend to look at it as part of the game. I had someone try to place £50 on a 2-2 draw that had already finished. HIs bet was taken (after the result).

When he came back in I handed him his £50, gave him a "nice try" kind of look and he smiled and walked out....

Don't like it when people rip-off independant Bookies tho.

Yes of course I get it. Why do you feel the need to pick up on everything I say by typing in capitals? I was trying to point out that you'd have to pick on a pretty inexperienced cashier to get away with this. GEDDIT?!?

Default the slow count

Jack Gambles are one of the most impressive Bookmakers on the Highstreet today. Although new, they have 10 times the turnover of Bet365 and twice the Turnover of Ladbrokes and William Hill combined. They recently launched their shares and the worth of Jack Gambles including their most impressive and world renowned casino - Jack Gambles Casino, is a total of £10 Billion. Their owner and founder Jack Gamble was recently voted in Forbes Magazine the most influencial business man in the World. If it wasn't for Bill Gates, Jack Gamble with his suspected worth of £23.25 Billion, would be the richest man in the world.

For anyone who does not follow politics, Tony Blair has a 40 minute meeting with Jack Gamble in Number 10, straight after Prime Ministers questions. Jack Gambles daughter, Michelle gamble is also rummered to be courting Prince William at the moment. Prince William has visited a Jack Gambles shop, numerous times over the last 6 months and there is talk that Jack Gamble has made a pass at Queen Lizzie 11 on his last visit to the palace. The reason nobody has heard about any of these incidents of course, is because, Jack Gamble owns half the media. Rupert Murdock owns the other half of the media, but Rupert and Jack are related somewhere down the line and they have agreed never to print a bad story about each other.

if you doubt anything I have said above, check out a newspaper whcih is not owned by either of these two. The only newspaper that comes to mind is "shatplyt", which is released on a weekly basis in the Rwandan province of Surptoin . The paper only has a readership of 880 people though.

Yeah heard that too Qxsad. Thought it was still not certain though. Jack has been one of the Mudjahadeen's main supporters in Iraq.
