Default Live betting price error

I did online live betting on williamhill another day for the match between AC Milan and Machester united. I bought 100 pounds for AC Milan to win after AC Milan got the first goal at the price of 2.2. I was confused at the price at that moment since I do not watch the match. But it could be that the Milan's goal is invalid or Manchester got another goal immediately after Milan's goal.
Several minutes later, I bought 50 pounds for the match to be draw at the price of 4 and 30 pounds for Manchester to win at the price of 7.5 in another bookermaker's website. This will guarantee me some winning no matter how the final results is.

However I found the bet I bought from williamhill was settled at the price of 1.5 and I was told there is an email from the company to explain the error. The email was sent at the time when the match nearly finished (72 min) and AC Milam leaded the match 2:0.

Hence I got 30 pounds loss with the match. If I bought 500 pounds at the beginning from willamhill, I will lose more. I took the price due to the company's mistake. Sometimes I made a mistake and phoned the company to avoid even 10 pounds' betting, I was told I have to take all the responsibility.

As claimed in the email bellow, Williamhill has the right to correct obvious mistake. But this could be deceitful. They may set a hight price in the beginning to allure big amount of stakes. Once Manchester win the game or the game turn to be draw, they may not say anything. Once the game be unfavorable to the company, they only need to claim they set a wrong price and they have told the customer by email. It seems very unfair to the customer.

Could anybody give me any idea?

Dear Sir/Madam,
We are unfortunately writing to inform you of a display error that occurred on the William Hill website for the AC Milan v Manchester United competition. The price for AC Milan was inadvertently displayed as 6/5, when it should have displayed as 1/2 , and as such your bet has been captured incorrectly.
In accordance with Rule F Acceptance of Bets:
"We cannot allow for mistakes or accept responsibility for any errors or omissions in respect of the announcing, publishing or marking of prices, runners or results despite our every effort to ensure total accuracy. We reserve the right to correct obvious errors".
In relation to this rule your bet(s) will be settled at the correct odds. We are happy, however, to void your wager(s) should you prefer. If you could therefore contact us on freephone 0800 085 6296 or International freephone 00 800 3551 3551 before 21:30 BST 2/5/07, we will willingly void your bet and credit your stake to your account where you should see your balance redressed accordingly.
If you have any further queries regarding your bet on the above competition or any other subject please contact our Customer Services department on UK freephone 0800 085 6296, International freephone 00800 3551 3551, or by e-mail at customerservices@williamhill.co.uk.

No way around this unfortunately - even heard of a highstreet name bookie (online) refusing to pay out due to a palp - 2 hours after the game was finished.

No way around this as the government still has done sweet f a to protect punters. I thought the revamp of the gambling laws would do something. That's why i'm a mug.

It's even worse when they do this to you in a live betting situation.
"Sorry - too many people won and we don't want to lose any money"

Supposedly all bets are a gentleman's agreement and not covered by law.
You could try IBAS or something similar if you really feel aggreaved, but if you were trying to pull a fast one - they'll catch you every time... and then some.

Its amazing how many of these there are. One place where your live bet odds will not be changed is betfair, if you get the bet matched at 2.5 then thats the price that will be paid out if it wins.

same as darren - had my fingers burnt in this way and will not touch in-play with bookies as they have this "we didnt make enough money, so we're going back and changing your odds" clause - would love to see tescos try to employ the same shit!

Sorry to disagree with the general ''all bookies are robbing bar-stewards'' here but...

''I was confused at the price'' just about sums it up...it was an error and this was then corrected...I know it's not nice when this adversely affects you...but shit happens.

You in fact probably knew there had been a mistake as...''Several minutes later'' you had turned the bet into a sure fire profit.

Unlucky...but not entirely unexpected either.

I'm with Dodger on this one.
2.2 was clearly a wrong price and it was a genuine "palpable" error.

I do think this area needs looking at, because it is wide open to manipulation by bookies, and the "palpable error" excuse IMO is overused, and this could be manipulated, especially in live betting events.

But as I said - in this case - they made the right decision.

Why leave it to doubt though? Bookies can claim they made the error and change the price to suit themselves. Its got a bit of after eventing about it really.

Only place I would consider doing a live bet is betfair or one of the other exchanges. Its just not worth the effort to risk doing it elsewhere imo, they might change the in play handicaps, or the odds. Which only shafts the punter. Might not happen often, but if you get stung by it will that make it better?

Is there a case around where the bookies made a mistake and underpriced the market, and have paid out at higher odds which would have been the correct odds?

While I do disagree with the original statement, 2.2 after Milan was a goal up (1.5 was generous IMO) has got to be a palpable error.

At the end of the day bookies are businesses and there are no laws regarding who they rip-off and vice-versa (they are there to take your money and do what they pretty much want to). IMO they are nothing but legalized thieves and I would put them on the same line as insurance compaines.

You are definitely right going with the exchanges, this way you are pretty much guaranteed your money. On the other hand you would probably would not find an idiot giving you 2.2 after Milan scored...... then agian
