And people complain about this - but think about it...if you wrote £1,000 instead of £10 on the slip, you'd be more than willing to void the bet rather than pay the full £1,000.

once i signed up with this online bookie based in coasta rica ,....can,t remember the name of it now though, and they quoted odds which were way off what they should have been (american football match), i put £500 on the team with mad odds, and they won ...but they didn,t pay out ...saying was a technical error on their part ...i spent £20 in phone calls just getting my stake back , and didn,t bet with them again.

bookies are covered against errors like like through a palpable errors ruling, which they invariably employ. If it looks too good to be true, it usually is...

Come on. How can you expect to receive these odds when in truth you asked for 7/2 and were satisfied with that. Bookies are always being called by punters but it appears many punters are prepared to take advantage of an clerical errors etc.. Honesty and honour cuts both way.

I concur honesty and honour cuts both ways but this is certainly not true for bookies. Bookies loved me when I was loosing money and once I got the hang of the game and started to get my money back, they cut my stakes. And I'm not talking about the small firms only. If you accidentally select the wrong horse because it has the same price as your selection and then ask them to void the bet (before the start of the race and before any price change) because you, the punter, made a clerical/palpable error they will refuse to do so so why should punters allow them to get away with clerical or 'palpable' errors? I have found several occassions when the incorrect price has been displayed for an unreasonably long time which I am sure is just to get more unwary punters to loose their money. They also take advantage of punters by not updating prices in a timely manner when there are non runners so the punter thinks he is getting a better price than he actually is. There should be some rule about reductions made on prices which makes the SP of the horse higher so if you take a 5/1 price and there is a 10p deduction but the SP of the horse is 6/1, the deduction should not be applied.
