Umm, just saw this as well. Kinna worrying I think. Just an email address to contact them given. Wonder if they are going bust or anything. I would be most supprised if they did though. I have always thought of them as a very good bookie. Luckily enough though I have no money deposited with them at present. Had a lot of money with them all through the footie season though.

Message on the website saying experiencing ongoing technical difficulties - should be ok I would imagine - they seem a solid outfit.

From today's Racing Post:

Quote:
Technical difficulties lose Blue Square nearly £2m
by Seb Vance

BLUE SQUARE estimate to have lost nearly £2million in turnover after "technical difficulties" forced the ground-breaking bookmaker to stop trading over the weekend.

Punters trying to access the bluesq.com website were unable to bet and were instead greeted by a brief notice which read: “We are experiencing continued technical difficulties.

"As a result our betting services are currently unavailable. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

The Rank Group-owned bookmakers had the website up and running on Sunday but were counting the cost of missing out on Saturday’s trading, which featured the Coral-Eclipse Stakes and the Ladies Wimbledon final.

“It was a blow that it happened when it did, if it had happened on a Monday, it would have been easier to take,” said public relations executive Ed Pownall.

“We have 400,000 people registered with us and 190,000 active users so to lose two days of big trading is very embarrassing.

“We would have had turnover of around £1million on Saturday and £800,000 on Friday and we’d take about eight per cent of that.”

Explaining why they were forced to shut down, Pownall said: “There was an error on Thursday night in our database so we decided to take the site down ourselves in the early hours of Fridaymorning at about 3.30am, expecting to be down for about an hour.

“It obviously turned out to be a far more serious problem, we still took bets manually until Friday evening after racing and then decided to shut up shop completely.”

Pownall went on: “We can only apologise profusely for what’s happened – it’s been an absolute nightmare. We will try and appease people who felt they missed out and that can often mean compensation of some sort.”

The four-year-old business that became one of the fewinternet start-ups to survive and prosper, adding a phone service to complement the web, was bought by Rank in January in a deal that valued the company at £65m.

“They (Rank) know it happens and it’s happened to them before,” Pownall added.

Blue Square were established in their current form in 1999 and are owned by Intercapital Private Group Limited, which has an 83 per cent share, with Blue Square employees accounting for the remaining 17 per cent.

Despite the failure of a number of rival internet-based firms such as Firststake, Luvbet, Netbetsports and Betachance, Blue Square turned over total stakes of £202m, generating gross win of £13.4m, in the year to December 31, 2002.

Yes, they're down again! :o

Cheers for that Jamdog, just e-mailed them concerning compensation!

Bcrazy, I haven't had the chance to take full advantage of the system, yet. I'm only in around £5 profit since I started it again in early June! Don't think £10 level stakes is enough.

Has anyone actually received any compensation from blue square? I have e-mailed them and they said they are not considering compensation claims.

No, I don't think they will hand out any type of compensation. I only e-mailed them about it, once I read the above. Can't blame me for trying. Though, I don't think they should say stuff like that, when they have absolutely no intention of it!

They should have also warned customers or kept us more informed of what was going on!
