Betfair question

Hi, I have a quick question on betfair, I am very new to betfair although I have been betting on the spreads and fixed odds for many years.

The question is about putting odds up for a bet. I put a bet up for a rugby game and asked for odds of 6/1 and an hour before kick off it was not matched and then I had to go out so left it up. Well the team lost and the bet was matched. I am sure though that what may have happened is that in running my bet stayed up and was matched in running. I thought that all bets were void once the event started and then another market opened up. Can anyone shed some light and explain what happens as I don't want to make the same mistake again. Like I say I am new to betfair and just want to make sure I understand fully before making mistakes.

When you place the initial request there is an option for what you want to happen to the bet when the market is turned in play. You should see 2 radio buttons at the bottom of the 'place bet' screen - Cancel or Keep. Tick the one you want and you should be fine.

The time of the bet will always be recorded so you can see what time it was matched at too.....

A lot of liquidity in these events only come in during the last 20 minutes before the off..

Hodgey is spot on

If you selected 'keep' before you went out, which you did by the sound of it, as soon as they went behind, the price drifted and your bet was taken. If you're going out before a match starts, select 'cancel' instead.

Just to add; 'cancel' is the default option.

O.K cheers guys I have seen the options you are talking about so I should be o.k from now on. As I am new to betfair and have heard of even experienced people making costly mistakes my bets have been kept small until I fully understand.
