I imagine the only reason they wanted to move the foreign accounts over to the Maltese centre was purely for tax reasons....however they then claimed after the initial problems that they thoroughly test any planned site changes - would be interested to know what exactly that involved because this site in a monumental screw up at the moment.

Its actually shocking isnt it,

Betfair is all about being able to lay off if you want to, You can accept it if it happens to your normal bookmaker because that wont change the result but with betfair you need it up and running.

I feel sorry for the people who placed their bets in good faith before the start of an event with a view to trading in-play. Betfair won't void any markets that were never turned in-play.

Now,

Of course the other point here in Betfair's favour is that is could quiet well be a DDOS attack..

Regular viewers will know what that is! Esp - Mods

If its happened 3 times before big events then there is a possibility that could be an option

No way mate, it has very few similarities to a DDOS attact and they admitted last week it was a fault in their system. The error message is one coming from Betfair, making a DDOS attack very unlikely. Especially considering they chose to take the site down.

I thought that initially last week, but other parts of the site were still runnine - e.g. the forum, the poker etc. It was only the sports betting site that was malfunctioning.

I think it has to do with their new bet processing system they introduced for foreign account holders.

It looks like there is a massive issue with bets being matched which could be down to a connectivity issue between Malta and their Hammersmith offices or, and more likely in my opinion, the new system is unable to cope with the volume of new bets.

It would appear more than coincidental that hours after introducing the change, the site is unable to cope and people aren't sure whether their bets have been matched or not. Even Betfair's own staff were unsure.

With a DOS attack you would be unable to access the site at all - however here you were able to access the site albeit with error messages when placing bets etc.
