Default How is gambling working for you

This is a genuine poll for a change!

I figured a poll would be best as then people can give their answers anonymously. I would like a bit of honesty here as I want to get a rough feeling to how well you punters are doing (or not doing!). So please answer!

Big Summer ahead for me. I've got my betting bank, got my sources for bets and got years of errors (hopefully!!) behind me. Have been mainly watching, learning and testing of late.
I've never been a big winner/loser but like all I've had my moments of both. The main thing I've learnt I guess is to make the whole thing less volatile by betting small percentages of my bank each time, thus being in a strong position when the losing run comes. I'm not so worried now about losers, but I'm terrified of not getting the right price for the winners I do get.

Up but would be peanuts if it wasnt for free bet and casino offers. Hoping to have made about £250 from casino offers by the end of the year (up about £125 at the mo), better than a paper round while I am still at school

Maybe I am cynical, but isn't this poll like the above question when asked by your doctor i.e you forget some of your losses/consumption of alcohol to look a little better. The bookies rely on us forgetting losses or we would give up.

I'm a card counter, and can make a steady income from that so am pro gambler in that sense. but I just bet on football for fun, being honest I lose in the long run at this, but I enjoy it.

I thought card counting was defeated by the use of multiple decks. Must be wrong. Don't they ban you when they realise what you are up to?

not defeated, but certainly made a lot more difficult.

I would imagine that they would ban you if they thought you had turned the odds in your favour - they don't like that

I thought that they did other things in relation to shuffling etc that made card counting redundant - obviously not though. Never been to a casino so probably talking through my didgeridoo!

oh, and in answer to the question. A perfectly healthy 70 or so

lol @70

aye, more decks makes the game a lot harder to beat. In Vegas you can get single deck games which have an expectation of +0.08% off the top. Coupled with counting, they are great (although they are watched v closely by the pitbosses). In Britain we are stuck with our 6 deck no hole card game. It has an expectation of -0.60% approx off the top All professional level count systems adjust the running count for the amount of decks but basically with such a crap expectation to start with, british card counters have to wait till a true count of at least +2 before raising their bet. Also our bet range has to be wider.....if you spread 1-8 in america you will do well, you need a spread of at least 1-16 and want 1-32 to have a decent chance here. As for being banned....it happens but less so if you are careful.

Forgot to mention to the question about shuffle techniques.....

The way the dealer shuffles does not matter one iota provided of course they arnt left in order or anything!

What has a huge effect is where they place the cut card (which signifys a reshuffle) The more cards a counter gets to see, the more accurate his true count is. A british casino inspector/pit boss on suspecting a counter will tell the dealer to "cut the deck in half"
