Question Punterslounge IRC/Chatroom

Hi,

First of all I don't know if this suggestion has been brought up or not, but I have a feeling this issue had been discussed. However, I can't find it anywhere.

So what do you guys think about making PL.com chatroom where all PLers can interact and stuff ? I think its a really good way to communicate with each other (LIVE) and on top of it everyone can use it for free.

But if this has been extensively discussed please do accept my apologies.

Hi mate,

Thanks for the suggestion. We have gone through this on several occasions already in the mods section and have so far decided against it. I think its fair to say that it would have the place looking very much like a teenage girls web-chat which is not really what PL is about. Most members here are on MSN and the like and it is sure to be a distraction from the site in general. Say if we had a chatroom then most people would not be bothered posting their tip and fancies thus we'd have many empty threads everywhere, why write it up if you can just stick it in the chat in passing. Its fair to say that all the good info that makes PL special would indeed be a thing of the past.

One other point is that it would be very difficult to control a chatroom and it would be open to many forms of abuse. Most notable scammers etc. They would effectively have a free reign on the place and we could not really protect any of our members from that. Im sure nobody wants that.

ic, very valid points there for the sake of PL and its members.

However, contacting on MSN is not as convenient as using IRC though. Moreover, IRC is better for mass communication. But since it've been decided that the disadvantages outweight the advantages I guess theres nothing to this thread, feel free to close it mod

No need to close it. PL is all about open discussion and it was indeed a very good question to bring up. As the forum is constantly growing and members come and go, its good to see new members helping out and putting in new ideas. Far from closing it - it should stay here and any further discussion added to it

Don't really see that, I have (as do most) MSN signing in as soon as the PC boots up, and all you have to do is click the person and type away

Yeah thats correct Jeffers, however if you don't know that person's MSN that would be impossible. Also to note, not all PL members list all their addie on MSN because I'm pretty sure some of them want to keep it more private. While on IRC, random people just keep flocking in and eventually you can pick any convo with anyone you want.

which is unfortunately the problem we have.!!!!!!

It is completely unmanagable and we CANNOT safeguard our members. You'll have to appreciate the amount of Scams and Scammers who work these boards and I myself have been victim to one. PL has been growing really big of late and we are a big market for the chancers, after all, 10,000 gamblers seems to be a godsent but trust me, we are bigger and better and have done well in shieding our members from this crap and I hope that we will continue to do the same.

Yeah thats very true indeed. If the chatroom ever existed, people must enter at their own risk and its not PL task to keepguard them. But however it still looks wrong and prolly no one will come if PL do that. So yeah I do understand the reason why PL don't want to use IRC which is fair enough.

To manage a forum and managing a chatline is completely different things.

I do agree with Uncoabis a irc chat is far important in a good forum like this. In fact, someone to write their opinion in the forum is totally different from what they are going to write in a chat.

IRC Chat, would enable us to have more emotional moment whenever the match is going on. It is like a big family where we stay together and cheers together whenever there are goals. I think having the worried if chatline exist and members will not write in the forum is not true. Well, I think we wouldnt want to see in this forum where members keep on begging for goals or 111111111111111 xxx team. Thats looks very bad indeed.

In a chatline, I would say, for those that actually watching the game, might give some extra opinion where a lot of members here are relying on live bets too. That would give more impression in putting extra $$ on certain team in live in order to extend their profit in the end of the day.

I strongly suggest, if we could setup the chat channel and we will see if that will actually affect the forum or not for a small period. If there is any side effect, probably we can just close it for good.

Please take this piece of advice and consider having that feature as add on tools for members

arneko_fe,

We have tried it previously and it failed miserably to be anything.

PL is very different to any other betting forum, as it always has had that "big family" feeling, as we see when we meet up in person regularly.

Also, it is (as already stated) very hard to manage and very open to abuse. We will not be reversing this decision I'm afraid, not in the not too distant future anyway.
