Default A Situation - What do you think?

Hi all,

I was just in a satellite feeder at Paddy Power Poker and had a healthy lead all the way through the game. It ended up with me with about 2,000 chips and the other guy had the remaining load (was a nine seater tourney).

Anyway, I was given two 6's as my hole cards and in the flop there was another six. The guy betted and I was about to raise and then the server was lost.

I ended up returning to the game once service was restored and was unable to win. I know I was not looking at winning although the three of a kind was sure to have helped me at that stage of the game.

I contacted the people at Paddy Power via email and explained the situation and asked for either a refund or a chance to enter another satellite and they responded by saying this..

Firstly I would like to apologize for the problems you have experienced
>tonight. Due to a technical problem the entire network went down for two
>minutes. This means that although you lost connection, so did all of
>your competitors. As all players lost connection you will not have been
>placed at a disadvantage.

>However, if you would like us to investigate your particular case
>further could you please provide us with either your Paddy Power account
>username or your Poker Screen Name.
>
>If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

I replied to them saying I would definitely like them to investigate this particular case seeing as I had three of a kind and technically I was at more of a disadvantage as I couldn't play the three of a kind that I had. W

What are our thoughts on this situation?

That's nonsense, of course. But these things happen, and it's not clear what they could do to be fair to people in your position. I think you just have to accept it as another bad beat. Unlucky.

They ended up refunding me;

Firstly I would like to say that having discussed your case with my
supervisor I was asked to point out that our policy is not to refund
players when there is a network disconnection. This is because all
players are affected in the same manner, and you will have still won the
pot if you had the best hand anyway.

However, as a valued Paddy Power customer we would like to offer you a
gesture of goodwill and refund your entry fees, a total of $3.46. Please
understand that this is a once only offer and in future our policy of no
refunds for a network disconnection will apply.

This is usually the way with poker sites, the first time something bad happens to you like this (through your fault or theirs) they will refund your stake....The next time they are far less likely to.

On limit poker tables you get something called all in protection whereby if you are DC you are treated as being all in for the pot you are active in. However it is bad practice to offer this protection for NL and PL tables as the potential for abusing it to avoid calling huge bets at the end is high.

I've had a lot of hassle with disconnections from the betfair poker. I always make sure I let them know about it. I mean if paddy power are gonna be so stingy as to grudge you your $3.46 entry fee well do remind them you can quite easily play poker elsewhere, there's no shortage of places to play.
No refunds for network disconnection when it is there fault ? Erm I'd go play elsewhere I think. I mean I've been disconnected in multis in decent positions with about 30-50 left, constant disgruntled e mails always get me my entry fee back plus often some compensation. I mean do you sit playing a multi for few hours for them to disconnect you and not even refund your stake ? I think not.
There's 100s of places to play poker now, competition is fierce, I would let paddy power know of their silly no refund for disconnection policy.
Utter bollox that is. Quite why anyone would put up with a site that doesn't even refund your entry is beyond me. I mean they are making thousands out the poker and they cant even afford software/servers that work and when they screw up they expect you to pay for that as well, don't think so.

The funniest was when he told me that I wasn't at a disadvantage when I was because I had three of a kind after the flop and had an opportunity to reel my opponent in. Then he says that I would have won the pot anyway but thats pure bollox because I didnt have a chance to raise him and would have only won the blinds.
