Good choice (although someone can always suprise). Also I see Boonen in yellow for two more stages. Individual time trial will probably change that.

edit: McEwan won.

Cadel Evans is the man to watch. He was 40/1 before all the fav's got booted out for doping.

My brother in law is very clued up with the Tour De France and he assures me Evans is the real deal.

Currently available to back at 8.2 on Betfair.

Will the real Tour de France please step forward.

Stage 7, Saturday 7th sees the first important exchange that will begin to sort out who can win the race. Can the Time-trialists gain sufficient time over the climbers before the steep inclines appear next week (roll on Wed & Thurs)?

Today each rider must cover the flat 52km course on their own. Unlike the Prologue (7km) this 1hour ish test will see significant time differences between the riders.

Guys to look out for are Zabriskie, Hincapie, Landis, Miller and Honchar. Also can Prologue surprise package S Lang (German time-trial champion) do as well over this longer distance.

I expect Kloden, Sastre, Zubeldia, Mayo and Cunego to loose more than 2 mins today.

With Evans, Popovych and Leioheimer looking to keep losses down to a under a minute.

The aerodynamic Zabriskie will go close but his price plenty short enough @ 2.4. I’ll stick with Dave to regain last weeks losses but I’ll ask for 2.58 as I think his price will drift. Also hoping for a good ride from Cadel Evans today and this may also be the best time to get on for outright winner.

Bets
Stage 7 winner - D Zabriskie 5pts @ 2.58 (not matched yet)
Outright Winner – C Evans 5pts @ 9.2

just two bets on the tour for me, a lay of Landis @ 2.06, for a couple of reasons, one it's a crazy low price in a crowded field, two I have doubts about his fitness with his hip problems, wouldn't be surprised to see him break down if pushed hard in the mountains.

Other bet, is Menchov @ 4.6 for the tour, I think he's in good forrm, only a minute behind. I'll look to lay him off if his prices moves under 3.0's though

Not enough coverage on television for me to follow it unfortunately. I think the doping bust really sullied this years event also.

It's covered each and every day on Eurosport as usual. Though, I have to agree this year's event is a bit flat and uneventful, most probably because of the dope hit just before the tour and the tactics of most teams has changed a big deal (see US Postal), which afected the competitiveness very badly. That said, I have also laid Landis (got evens two days ago, now 11/10) for a large chunk to bet back when the price is right - agree the price is unreal, he's no Armostron or Basso and the Alps are still ahead. Also think his team has no depth to push him through the mountains.
Anyway, this thread has never been very lively in the past either - the event lasts almost one month and only real enthusiasts watch all stages.

With all due respect, the Landis lay is as good as in after his today's collapse. Now trading @ 80s.

Well what do you know ? he was pushed hard in the mountains and couldn't take it, just as I thought. I laid him off at 2.06 and then some more @ 1.34. The tour has just become very profitble for me, whatever happens from here on in.

The mug rush towards favs on the exchanges in almost every sport continues, people see money in one direction and pile in, driving prices out of kilter.

It'd be nice if Menchov had a great final day in the mountains and won the tour, but that's not really that important.

That's right, but I daresay a lot of us managed to square the position (I got matched @ 95, just too much money riding on that lay to take chances) and the price is just crazy yet again so thinking of laying a bit of Landis @ 1.28 which is available on the lay site

[quote=pageot]Don't follow the sport any other time of year but the Tour is always a good contest. I am thinking of backing the Dane Michael Rasmussen @ 6/4 with Ladbrokes to be King of the Mountains. He won this last year when he seemed about the only rider interested in winning the jersey. Is there any reason why it wont be the same this year?[quote]

cheers Michael! Same time next year!

With Landis failing his drug test, I've lost what little faith I had in the honesty of this sport.

Betfair should void all bet's on Landis, I've lost money here and feel I've been cheated. It's not right

foolsgold I totally agree with you. I hope they give your money back. We have to wait for the second sample but if he fails that he will be kicked out....What I dont understand is why the heck do they wait until the end of the race. pantani got kicked out of the Giro in 1999 virtually the next day if not that same week. The whole sport of cycling is corrupt. if they had a drug policy like the International Olympic Organisation it would be cleaner.......
