| Bit of a hard luck story for me today in the end. Cusack was in 3rd place on his own until the 2nd last ball of the match when someone tied him for 3rd which actually meant I ended up -3.12 for that bet. Kent were cruising to victory at 135/4 chasing 173 but then collapsed to lose by 6 runs. Not sure what went on with their batting lineup but needing over a run a ball why Arafat is coming in at 10 and Tredwell 7 is beyond me. Essex won though to limit the day's loss to 4.02pts. That keeps me +3.25 for the competition. |

I can't see us beating Somerset. They beat us 2 weekends ago and now we've got no Mascarenhas. I was going to be all over Somerset at 8/11 but we have got KP tomorrow and Bond can still do some damage. There's not a lot else with the ball though which is a problem. I don't like betting at odds on in one day matches especially when rain is around and I'd be surprised if this is 50 overs because there was so much rain in Southampton today that the grass fields which is normally used for parking have been closed for tomorrow. It's also a day night match which is crucial in this country so I'll leave that. Even at 4/6 though Durham are good things. 10pts Durham to beat Derbyshire 4/6 Ladbrokes Defending champions Durham Dynamos travel to Derby with a win to their name from their only match so far. That was against Yorkshire who beat Derbyshire last Sunday. They also have a no result against Lancashire to their name. Durham have England captain Paul Collingwood available for this match to completely strengthen an already solid and strong batting lineup. Durham are going to go into this match with a top 6 of Di Venuto, Mustard, Coetzer, McKenzie, Collingwood and Benkenstein. That's strong whoever you are. Harmison will be available with the ball while Neil Killeen is miserly as ever. Graham Onions will probably take the new ball. Liam Plunkett misses out with injury. Derbyshire capitulated against Yorkshire last weekend and even Charl Langeveldt isn't going to make this lot good. I don't think Greg Smith is fit to play but even if he is I can't see Derbyshire winning this. There's next to nothing in their batting, in fact Jamie Pipe and Graham Wagg who bat 7 and 8 are probably the most consistent performers with the bat. Tom Lungley and Langeveldt will get the new ball. Derby may have won at the Riverside in this competition last year but the two sides which will line up tomorrow are totally different to the two on that day. Durham are much stronger than they were then while Derby have lost Harvey and indeed Simon Katich. This is meant to be a day night match but because of the farce with Derby and the sunshine the match is starting at 1.30pm so it could all be over before it's dark so on a fairly level playing field Durham will win this.

| Annoyingly despite chasing a pretty low total Durham put in a poor batting performance and lost by 1 run . -6.75pts for the tournament now. Next matches are on Sunday. |

| Friday was annoying but hopefully I'll hit back on Sunday.
I did consider Northants but their incoming South African's don't arrive yet so I'll leave them with Notts having Broad and Sidebottom in this match. I'll go with 2 though, 1 in the TV match which is Hampshire vs Gloucestershire and 1 other. No top bats just yet as I'm still getting a feel for the batting lineup's at the minute. Loads more matches coming up on TV this week though for top bats. As it's quite late I'll keep writeup's fairly short. 10pts Gloucestershire to beat Hampshire 11/10 Skybet Hampshire suffered a major blow when Shane Bond went lame during their match with Somerset on Friday night. Without him they failed to defend 287 with Sean Ervine going for 88 in his 10 overs. James Tomlinson is likely to come in for Bond but there really is nothing to Hampshire's bowling now unless Tremlett can turn it on. Even their batting can be hit and miss although that is boosted by Pietersen playing in this game although Hampshire's all round package is weakened with Mascarenhas' absence as he's in India. Gloucestershire are a good one day side, it's a given with them really and although their batting lineup has yet to really fire so far this season there's more than enough there to win this match. Hamish Marshall comes in off the back of a ton in the week and Kadeer Ali, Craig Spearman and Marcus North are all good players as is Alex Gidman. Carl Greenidge is likely to come into the bowling attack while Jon Lewis should love it here. Lots of runs were scored here on Friday night but that was with a short boundary. They'll play in the middle of the square here though and with Gloucestershire having the better all round side I'll take them at odds against. 10pts Lancashire to beat Durham 10/11 Boylesports Lancashire will have Jmaes Anderson and Andrew Flintoff available here. Mal Loye, Stuart Law and new signing Mohammad Yousuf will also all play. Sajid Mahmood will be in the bowling attack and right now Lancashire look very strong with their England stars available. Durham will wonder how they lost to Derbyshire on Friday but they'll probably go with the same side again here. Their batting is strong on paper but as a unit it's not happened yet. Liam Plunkett will still miss out with injury. Lots of quality on show here but I just favour Lancashire on home soil.

| Sounded like a tight game at Old Trafford . Steven Croft hit the last ball to win that for me but the rain helped Hampshire so Gloucestershire lost. I don't mind that though as Hampshire won . Slight loss on the day though. -7.66pts for the competition going into tomorrow.
3 for me tomorrow. 10pts Glamorgan to beat Worcestershire 11/8 Boylesports Glamorgan come into this match at New Road in good form having beaten Gloucestershire in the Championship last week before beating Somerset in the FP Trophy yesterday. Worcestershire seemd to have Northants on the ropes in the Championship only to let them away with a draw. They were thrashed by Gloucestershire in their only completed FP match. Worcestershire will have an injury doubt over Kabir Ali for this match. He was originally named in the 12 man squad for this match but he was unable to bowl at Northampton on Saturday due to injury. Simon Jones is also in the 12 man squad. Worcestershire have a good batting lineup on paper although it's not shown up yet in this tournament but their bowling without Ali is woeful as we saw on Saturday when Northants helped themselves to 400 on the 4th day. Glamorgan will pin their hopes around their bowlers mostly. They will be led by Jason Gillespie who was very economical yesterday. Alex Wharf is an ex-England international while in Dalrymple, Croft and Cosker they have a 3 prong spin attack should they wish to go that way. David Hemp's in good form with the bat, this time last year Jamie Dalrymple was in England's world cup squad and Matthew Maynard's son Tom is an exciting prospect with the bat. Maynard was a superb one day player and he'll know what is needed for his side to become a good one day side. They signed well in the summer and have a good mix of youth, experience and touches of quality thrown in. Worcestershire are a weird bunch at the minute but their bowling is just cannon fodder. Glamorgan look the stronger side overall and I'll go with them to make it a weekend double on the road. 10pts Sussex to beat Middlesex 10/11 Boylesports Even though this is only Sussex's 3rd match in this competition they are pretty much in last chance saloon. They simply have to win here having suffered two losses already. Middlesex won their 1st two but one of those was a tad streaky against Kent before Surrey turned them over yesterday. Sussex will open with Matt Prior alongside Chris Nash and the usual middle order of Yardy, Adams and Goodwin has quality written all over it. Luke Wright will float somewhere in that order too and he's due to come off with a decent score in this competition soon. James Kirtley is in with the ball alongside Martin-Jenkins while Yardy will provide a spin option in the absence of Mushtaq. Middlesex have a young bowling lineup which may be a problem as the season goes on. Tim Murtagh has come on leaps and bounds since he left Surrey and Steve Finn will be really good but he's still learning the one day nuances. Gareth Berg and Daniel Evans are two more youngsters. The batting is strong although Berg batted 6 against Surrey which would be a cause for concern. Andrew Strauss and Owais Shah will hope to remind the England selectors of their form. Traditionally in recent seasons winning at Hove has been almost impossible and I expect Middlesex to find it tough too. Sussex have to win to get back in the mix in the South/East group and with Middlesex's bowling have a young look to it I'll take the winners of this tournament in 2006 to get their campaign started here. Now one for the TV game. 5pts ew J.Kemp Top Kent Batsman 6/1 Boylesports (1/4 1,2,3) Justin Kemp finally made his comeback for Kent yesterday at Hove and produced a match winning knock of 68 not out. He's generally a guy who goes well on quick wickets and if he gets going the boundaries at The Oval won't be anywhere near big enough. I can't really understand why Kemp's such a big price, captain Rob Key hasn't really got going yet this season and other than Denly and van Jaarsveld Kent go in with all rounders and bits and pieces players. Kemp will bat at number 4 and at 6/1 looks an each way bet to nothing.

| . How do you not chase down barely 3 an over against Scotland . The weather has hurt me this weekend. It would've been a certain Gloucestershire win yesterday but for the rain and today's match at Worcester appeared to be a win the toss, win the match type game. Unfortunately Glamorgan lost the toss. Sussex won easily though and Kemp was only beaten by a career best by Geraint Jones so just +1.6pts for the day and back to -6.06 for the competition. Next match is Thursday. Sussex vs Surrey which is live on sky. |

| Very unlucky with your Kemp shout Kev. I saw it in the early hours and was straight on to Boylesports. What a time for old Jonesy to remind everyone he knows how to bat. Still at least there was a small profit for the place. Keep up the good work |
