| The 1st one day competition of the domestic season begins on Sunday. The format for this competition has changed again from last year. This year the 20 sides are split into 4 groups of 5 with teams playing each other home and away over 50 over per side matches. The top two in each group after 8 matches goes into the quarter finals which are then played as a knockout. The groups are: South East Surrey Middlesex Kent Sussex Essex Western Hampshire Somerset Worcestershire Gloucestershire Glamorgan North Lancashire Durham Yorkshire Derbyshire Scotland Midlands and East Northants Warwickshire Leicestershire Nottinghamshire Ireland |

| I think we look a decent bet 1st off. We won the pro 40 last year of course and are a good, solid one day side. 19s look worth a gamble imo, and although this is different we have a good mix of experience and talent, and Im pleased with our batting and bowling start to the CC where I was negative. Early days and this is a biased call, but we are a good and proven OD side and I think we can go far. Last year we drew a few games when we were in a good position and came 4th, just outside the KO, when we could have easily gone through, and I think we are value here

| 3 outrights for me in this competition. 1pt ew Gloucestershire to win Friends Provident Trophy 28/1 Boylesports (1/3 1,2) Gloucestershire should never be 28/1 to win a one day tournament no matter which one it is. They have a top 6 which are all pretty quick scorers and good one day players. Even Adshead and Hardinges can bat too so their batting lineup is more than capable of being in the mix in this event. Their bowling isn't as strong but let's not forget Gloucester made the final of the twenty20 last season so that shows they can keep it tight when they need to and with their recent history in 1 day competitions 28/1 is huge and well worth an ew dabble. 2pts Surrey to win South Group 7/2 Stan James Surrey are another side who have a powerful batting lineup and Ali Brown and James Benning tend to up it a notch for the one day game. They've also got a decent bowling attack too which should see them in good stead and although this is a very tough group, that could be to Surrey's advantage as they tend to perform well against the better sides and Surrey look very overpriced to win this group. 2pts Leicestershire to win Midlands and East Group 4/1 Stan James Leicestershire have played most of their better cricket in the limited overs competitions in recent seasons and they look well placed to do so again. Boeta Dippenaar will come into their side to score runs. He has an ODI average of over 40 so that shows his pedigree and Dillon Du Preez comes with not only a big reputation but big stats too. Paul Nixon captains the side still and with Ackerman and Allenby starting the season off so well Leicester can surprise the rest in this open looking group. |
