Daily Horse Racing Competition Rules

General

The competition will run over each calendar month.

New players can join at any time within the month and will join the lowest division at the time.

Players are not obliged to post every day.

Any player not posting for a whole month without prior notice will be taken out of the DHRC regardless of what division he/she is in at that time and if returning will have to start in the lowest division.

The 3 highest scoring players will be promoted from Division 2 and the 3 lowest scoring players will be relegated from Division 1each month. Any tied scores will be decided by the highest daily score the player has achieved that month.

*The number of divisions could be subject to change depending on levels of participation.

Selections and Scoring

Selections are limited to British racing only.No Irish, French or Virtual meetings are allowed.

If there is no British racing due to abandonement, then Irish meetings will be used. When no British racing is scheduled, the competition will not run.

Each player can make 2 main selections and up to 3 reserve selections each day in case of non runners.

More than 1 selection from the same race is allowed.

Selections must be accompanied with timeand meeting and be posted at least 10 minutes prior to race of thefirst selection. The player should also indicate what division he is in.

Editing of posts is not allowed.

Selections can be replaced, but as editing is notallowed, it is required that all new selections are made again in abrand new post within that days thread. A new post can only be made before there have been any runners (including any reserves) in the initial post. The new post will supercede the earlier one and will also still be subject to the 10 minute rule.

Selections must clearly state the name, the meeting and time of race for each horse. Unfotunately, due to increasing work for the admin team, systems will no longer be accepted - each horse must be named.

If a player knows he is unable to post on a certain day(s), a player may post up the chosen horses in advance. This can be done by starting (or adding to) daily threads where selections should be left in each thread. As per daily threads, horse and meetings (with time of race) must be named.

It is permissable for others to post appropriate named horses on behalf of a competitor - by arrangement - if they know they are going to be away awhile. If you choose to do this, please PM the details to your divisional admin.

The scoring places in a race are asfollows;

In all races of up to 4 runners - only the winner scores

In all races of 5, 6 or 7 runners - the first two score

In all races of 8 to 15 runners - the first three score

In non-handicaps of 16 or more runners - the first 3 score

In handicaps of 16 or more runners - the first four score

The scoring is based on SP and the position in which the horse finishes. The formula is SP/finishing position therefore,

10/1 winner = 10 points

10/1 2nd = 5 points

10/1 3rd = 3.33 points

10/1 4th = 2.5 points

in the event of a dead heat,

DH for 1st & 2nd ,selection priced @ 10/1 for instance

0.5 x 10 (winning score) = 5 points and

0.5 x 5 (runner up score) = 2.5 points

therefore the dead heated selection would score 7.5 points.

Top Scorer Award

In addition to monthly competition prizes, there will be 4 quarter-yearly prizes for the individual best score of that period. The periods are as follows:
January - March
April - June
July - September
October - December

Should there be a tie for top scorer in any period, then the winner of these players will be determined by their 2nd best score over that period. Should there still be a tie, then the 3rd, 4th, 5th etc highest scores will come into play until a winner is decided.

Monthly Prize Money

£40 Division One
£15 Division Two
£10 Division Three
£10 Top Scorer Award for the Quarter (best individual score on any day)
£15 Cup Winner

All prize money is sponsored by Betfair and will be made in the form of a credit to a Betfair betting account. There is no cash alternative.
All claims are to be made to Paul Ross by PM, stating your Betfair account username.

FAO Comp Admin

do you have to put your reserve picks in the post with your initial selections or are you allowed to post them anytime up to the 10 minute deadline ?

thanks

Post them with your initial selections please Ian.

Just thinking of the workload for the mods doing the scoring.

Cheers

Just for reference: Although it lowers your maximum point score, are you allowed to pick 2 horses from the same race?

I think the fairest way is how billy has scored the same result for Dub Cee, and that is to calculate half as a winner and half as a runner-up.

ie
14/1 winner

0.5 x 14 (winning score) = 7pts
0.5 x 7 (runner-up score) = 3.5pts

7 + 3.5 = 10.5pts

4949 - as we are onto the evening of the last day you may as well wait for tomorrow now (unless you have a 100/1 winner up your sleeve). I'm presuming you'll start in the New Division Two

In light of recent events, the rules will be looked at and made watertight in time for the September competition. This will not be a major overhaul, but more a tightening up of said loopholes, especially with regard to replacements and the format of posts etc. I will be discussing this with Seen et al so don't panic, but if you think something is missing, let me know.

As you mentioned Kev the problem of meetings being abandoned and non-runners is the main area where the rules need tightening up. Today is really a classic example of this where Catterick has already gone and there are non-runners all over the shop. However I think it could be difficult and confusing to come up with some rule stating when and when you can't post additional selections due to Non-runners etc. Such a rule would also add to the workload of the mods / scorers etc in my opinion. So it might be an idea to make the competition a little more flexible with regards posting additional selections and allow anyone to re-do their ENTIRE selections FOR ANY REASON providing the new post still meets the timing criteria / number of selections etc. It is understood by all concerned that this new post completely supercedes the original one and that no cross referencing between the two posts will be made by the scorers. As such the new post will have to contain ALL the selections that the tipster has an interest in. This will minimise the work for the mods / scorers since all they'll have to do is start from the end of the thread and work backwards until they come to the 1st post for that tipster. They'll then know that's the post that contains the tipster's definitive statement.

Just my tuppeny's worth. I'm sure others will have different ideas / opinions.

And by "timing criteria" above I probably mean that an additional post can only be added before the time of the first race of the day (otherwise you could get someone selecting horses from some of the earlier races, seeing how they do and then posting up some later selections if they're not happy ! )

Can I just say I love the rule that says no virtual racing is allowed. I am just picturing someone sat at home reading that going "awww - but the form works out so well...."

You can join anytime endacreav. You'll start in Division 2 and if you can pick a few 100/1 or 50/1 shots it's still not too late to win the Div 2 prize for October. But I guess realistically you'll be looking at November now. Yes everyone can see your tips - just post them in the Daily thread each day along with a few reserves. There's a few more rules concerning posting times etc which you can check out above. Hope to see you join us soon.

Everyone can see your selections.
To join you just need to start posting your selections, according to the rules.
You will start in division 2.
There are a few days left this month, why not post for those and any probs can be sorted before 1st Nov.
Good luck.

This was a request to join - on the wrong thread !

I'm glad to be part of the competition now. As a breeder you'll find my tips will favour certain stallions, especially when the turf flat gets going again.
