320 Wincanton : John Charles (11/1)

A modest handicap hurdle in which fav Nicki Boy looks the improver but will go off at short odds and has been raised 7lbs, finding one that may upset him isnt that easy but a horse I watched a couple of times before xmas comes back from a break and if anything like fit will give a good account of himself. The horse is John Charles, won at Uttoxeter from the front quite impressively from Self Respect who was ridden by Choc Thornton, interesting that he rides John Charles today! After that he was upped in class and ran at Ascot and Kempton, didnt get the run of the race in the first one and didnt stay the extra distance in the other. Ran below form on tacky ground next time and trainer decided to put him away until the firmer ground returned. Well the ground is here and has been dropped 7lbs in the weights so all we need now is the horse to be 100% fit after 100 days off. My guess is that he will be.

Frustrating type who travels well in his races. Hopefully the better ground today will allow him to get home. Small E/W bet.

Reasoning	A good horse, that had some troubles with soft courses, but a good to firm ground today and I expect a good run. Rob Thornton takes the ride and I really like the King/Thornton combo, that can sneak a big priced winner anytime. The 3rd place at Kempton in November was with more weight and the last outing was clearly tough, because the opposition was far better and the horse needed the run. But a good e/w chance at a good price. A small e/w nibble.
