Default Newbury 21/04/07

Sorry to be un-original with my selections but I strongly fancy these today.

2.10 Newbury: MARAAHEL
Old sniffy has a good record with his runners at Newbury and this 6yr old was not beaten far in Hong Kong at Sha Tin LTO , this high class sort should take this.

3.15 Newbury: INDIAN INK
Was one of last seasons leading juvenile fillies when winning the Cheveley Park Stakes and she can make a successful reappearance here today.
After winning a valuable sales race by an easy 3l's over 7f's at Ascot, she registered her first group 1 win in impressive style at Newmarket LTO.

3.55 Newbury: DUTCH ART
After beating subsequent Group 1 winner Simply Perfect in a hot novice event on his debut, the 3yr old has gone on to land 2 wins at the highest level himself.
He seems effective on almost any surface and is difficult to oppose with this step-up in trip likely to suit.

Today in the post
"Dutch Art is not fit," Chapple-Hyam told Racing UK on Friday, before adding that he believed that class would still see him through. The trainer evensaid earlier in the week that his other runner Tariq was likely to finish in front of Dutch Art owing to superior condition.

Today on the morning line LOL

Event 3.55 Newbury
Selection Dutch Art
Strength 10/10
Date 21/04/2007
Bookmaker/Price Ladbrokes @ 2.10 (Back)
Reasoning Unbeaten in 4 races. Completed his hat-trick of Group wins last year and ended campagn as the top-rated British 2yo. Encouraging reports this spring and is 4/1 for the Guineas. Should win without much trouble today.

A couple of big priced selections today in the Spring Cup.

MACEDON (2.40 Newbury)
The big handicap today, the Spring Cup, sees 23 go to post here. I'm pretty certain that those drawn high will have an advantage, so field narrowed down to boxes 16-23. Zero Tolerance is drawn against the rail but prefers softer and, personally, I'm not a fan of the jockey. Rocamadour and Ace Of Hearts (one of Bowles' favourites) are both very capable of taking this if at their best, but both will probably need the run so are opposed today. Dettori's mount Night Crescendo has been off the course for too long to take this, and is another who may be suited by a bit of cut, whilst Zato should be suited by todays conditions but has something to prove at present. Acheekyone could run a big race and is definitely feared, however long absence is a worry. Fajr may suffer traffic problems with its come from behind style and prefers the AW. Bottom weight Middlemarch is not totally dismissed, and could sneak a place at massive odds and represents the shrewd Scottish yard of Jim Goldie, but preference is for the Martin Dwyer ridden Macedon. Unexposed but knows how to get its head in front. 2 wins last year in a maiden and a handicap, followed by a couple of 5ths. Was unsuited by the slow pace in the 1st one of those, whilst was given a poor ride in the latter. Positive sign that Dwyer takes over from Liam Keniry and excellent EW claims today at around 16/1.
5pts EW on Macedon
1pt EW on Middlemarch

Sport Horse Racing
Event 2.10 Newbury
Selection Maraahel (Lay)
Strength 10/10
Date 21/04/2007
Bookmaker/Price Betfair @ 2.90 (Lay)
Reasoning I think this one is bit short. Richard Hills stays with Maraahel but a year ago the partnership could manage only third behind two more of the owner's representatives, Mubtaker and Munsef. The latter is once again a rival and also racing is the handicapper of the year in 2005 - Sergeant Cecil.

2.10 Sergant cecil(nap thread)
10/1

2.40 Plum Pudding, big field possibly some each-way value in the selection, ideal 1m trip, won twice at newmarket over similar ground.
10/1

4.25 Junior, should be primed for this race, should relish stepping up to 2m, open to further improvement, will love the fast ground.
3/1

nice work mate,

i only had the one go in, Junior in the 4.25

i didn't bother backing Dutch Art.

I liked the look of diamond tycoon in the 1.40, very impressive - one to watch out for in the future.

There was something odd about the results for the 2.40 on both Sporting-Life and RacingPost websites. S-L result had only 15 runners starting, and only the top 2 listed as places, RP had 23 runners but only listed the top 2 as places. Also, in the Ladbrokes results section they only list 2 places. I presume you got paid?
