Won twice on good ground at Aintree in May/June 2005, but lightly raced since; though unproven on ground quite this quick. 3 Wins from 25 runs. At the price a lay for me.

COUNT COUGAR 2.10 Southwell.

Can't knock his recent form with gaining 3 wins in his last 4 starts, and being consistent for a while now. However, with those wins have come rises in the weights and I just think today will test him severely after being raised in the weights again. Apprentice 'Michael Stainton' ( claims 5lb ) is said to counteract the rise in weights, but with him riding the horse a few times recently, he's still gone up in the weights when you combine the last 4 or 5 runs, so although the 5lb taken off can only help, it wouldn't be that much help to be honest! The trip of 5f wouldn't appear ideal either, as I personally think he's much better over 6f these days ( as proven lately ) and the bare form and weights combined of several others would make this a very open race. ( a few better off at the weights if finding their bests )

I've run the race several times in my head and I can see 'Count cougar' being hard ridden when the going gets tough to keep in with a winning chance, and then I see the weights kicking in and making life a very big struggle. Of course that's in an ideal world if laying him, but I'm also aware that he's in great form of late and so it wouldn't be the biggest surprise ever if he pulled a bit more out the bag and got another win. I'd want around 10/1 to 'think' of backing him in context with this race and although 10/1 shots win on a regular basis, you just have to lay them when as short as 4.1/4.2 (betfair currently). I'd be surprised if this price isn't nearly doubled by the time of the race, so my bits opposed at the standing prices could look very short. Again could be wrong, but all about opinion isn't it.

5.20 Wetherby - Cloone Rocket (F/Cast 3.00)

Lucinda Lamb was steadily improving last year and performed above expectations in past three races - fairly open field with Cloone as favourite but enough here with LL and Sea Venture also a contender to provide an upset - feel Sea Venture may be better suited to this distance)

Nikindi a big danger here in my view with its breeding through Alma Latina (Persian Bold) - and not convinced about Mick Channons recent maiden runners - so again enough of a reason to oppose - but weak I admit!!!

i think I'll refer to myself as 'the lucky fool'!!! amazing - didn't have a huge amount of confidence in this but somehow it turned out correct (for once!!!). far too close to call though.

Shown nothing this season, cant see why it is this price. Has run on ground before this season so not that. A great lay for me. Not much reasoning I'm afraid - I just cant see how this thing can possibly win.
