| For so long, we have avoided them believing they are not strong enough to win races. Surely now, though, time has come to change our opinions. There are some very able lady jockeys out there and quite often very viable betting propositions. Hayley Turner riding 100 winners in a year surely the defining moment. And look at the others out there including Kirsty Milczarek, Amy Ryan, Catherine Gannon, Amy Baker and Kelly Harrison. Some of these are more than a match for the lads, and it wouldn't surprise me one iota if Amy Ryan took the big prize up at Newcastle tonight on Green Manalishi. I really think it will go close and one of the things that attracted me to its chances was the jockey booking.....I would have said exactly the opposite a couple of years ago. Thoughts?

| I agree, I don't view the presence of a female jockey as a negative, I think most of the jockeys are much of a muchness together. Of the women, I think Kirsty is one I've probably done best with and I think she is able. She doesn't seem as widely used now she has ridden out her claim but I think she is just as good as many of the blokes. Cathy Gannon is under rated IMO, I think she is good from the front, like of Wind Flow, she's given that some really good races from the front, that someone like Daryll Holland would be proud of. I think Turner is a little over rated, although I admire her for reaching the milestone before her injury. The only woman I avoid all the time is Ann Stokell, she's as bad as Spencer IMO. |

i have been looking at Green M tonight Russ, but the thought of Amy riding the horse has put me off slightly as this needs every inch of balance to win over 5f here in a field thats bound to bunch up. She was 6th in the Wokingham however the runners get plenty of room at Ascot. not sure the track will suit the horse though. Will be intersting to watch how she does, i rarely back lady jockeys.
