Default Chepstow (eve) 1/7/09

9.10 Chepstow

This six furlong sprint looks wide open and after Cheap Street and Minnola were pulled out this morning, fifteen will now face the starter. However, they are betting 5/1 the field and nothing appears standout. Paul Doe's mount Just Jimmy heads the market and is a course and distance winner. He was a close second in this grade over course and distance last time out for David Evans and infact drops in grade to figure here, however, he is the lowest rated runner in the field and may potentially be outclassed by one from further up the handicap. Bobhoe and Plumage share second favourtism at 7/1 but neither looks bombproof even if their positions towards the head of the market are understandable. Bobhoe won on fast ground at Salisbury last time out and has been raised just 2 lbs for that win. Dropping in grade he appears one of the more likely ones, whilst Plumage remains a thirteen race maiden but does have bits and pieces of placed form to hint a small handicap may be waiting for her at some point. However, the one that takes my fancy at the prices is Stuart Kittow's Desert Pride, a 14/1 shot with Sporting Bet. The yard have had a couple of decent priced winners in the past fortnight and have a super record at this track in recent seasons. Add to that the fact the top course jockey (Fergus Sweeney) is on top and already you could make a case for the horse even without going any further, however, when you do, the bet looks even more tempting. Last time out Desert Pride ran over course and distance and finished a respectable third to Cape Melody and Alisa Craig. Beaten by little over one and a half lengths, the gelding edged right inside the final furlong but hopefully the visor that is applied tonight can act as a corrective measure. The form of that race is working out respectably as the second and fourth were both tight seconds next time out in class 5 handicaps, whilst Desert Pride infact drops down to class 6 (0-65 level) here. He runs on the same ground, off the same mark, and hopefully the headgear can make all the difference.

14/1 Sporting Bet, 1 pt win

Chepstow 20.10

I like the look of Jackie Kiely in this 1m4f contest, beaten a length LTO in an amateur riders race by todays top weight is about 9lb better off with Jack Mitchell taking the ride this time, Has won over both course and distance rated a lot higher than this. Ground shouldn't be a problem and trainer S Brotherton looks like showing a bit of form

Win @ 5/1 stan james

Chepstow 20.40

Addiena has plenty of form around here with her best run coming last season off todays mark of 63 over C&D with D Probert taking 3lb off I thgink the race is set up for her today

Win @ 6/1 stan james

addiena 840 chep. 0.5 pts ew. seems to have been running over inadequate trips recently and on ground that didnt seem ideal. returns to a better trip and on ground that suits better this evening. drops to a mark of 63 (4lb lower than recently) and so can run a big race.

8.40 Beautiful Breeze

Can run on the firmer ground and step up to 1m trip lto was very successful, coming 5th out of 9 in a grade 2 at Ayr. Previously has been running at the 7f relatively well winning at Warwick and staying on well 4th at Beverley. Although is greatly up in the weights he should be able to build on his first try at this trip and go close.

8.10 Chepstow Bolton Hall (1m4f, Class 6, G/F)
Another horse that is having a flat run after a resonable campaign over hurdles. Won a class 4 novice hurdle in May after a few placed efforts & ended up running off OR 100 on last outing when pulled up over 22f. Had 2 AW runs back in feb however they were to tune the horse up for its jumps campaign, as after those runs its figures were 2-2-3-2-1-P, so very consistent horse. Looking back at its turf career, it has victories over 5f, 7f , 8f & 9f. Its last victory on the level being at Beverley over a mile in Aug 07 off OR 60. Runs off 50 tonight its lowest ever rating. The fast ground should to its liking & a competent jockey on board.

Bets odds 15/2 Sporting bet

7.10 Chep

Captain Jacksparra was once a decent little handicapper around class 3-4 level but finds himself in a claimer here. Went close at this level last time out and could gain compensation tonight. Evs
