For so long, we have avoided them believing they are not strong enough to win races. Surely now, though, time has come to change our opinions. There are some very able lady jockeys out there and quite often very viable betting propositions.

Hayley Turner riding 100 winners in a year surely the defining moment. And look at the others out there including Kirsty Milczarek, Amy Ryan, Catherine Gannon, Amy Baker and Kelly Harrison.

Some of these are more than a match for the lads, and it wouldn't surprise me one iota if Amy Ryan took the big prize up at Newcastle tonight on Green Manalishi. I really think it will go close and one of the things that attracted me to its chances was the jockey booking.....I would have said exactly the opposite a couple of years ago.
