Formula One Betting: Red Bulls look sharp enough to deny Hamilton pole at Silverstone

British Grand Prix Qualifying

This weekend sees the 9th leg of the Formula One 2012 season take place at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. The eagerly awaited British Grand Prix has been sold out on all three days for months and unfortunately the English weather looks to be having plenty to say already with both practice sessions on Friday resulting in very little worthwhile action due to heavy rain in the area.

The majority of the 97,000 capacity crowd would love to see a British winner and Ladbrokes are offering 3/1 that either Hamilton, Button or Di Resta come home in front on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton is the second favourite behind Sebastian Vettel to win the race at around the 7/2 mark.

Positive noises are coming out of McLaren since their disappointment in Valencia and upgrades to the car should see some improvement plus the track at Silverstone has always suited the team so no reason why Hamilton cant get close to the front of the grid in qualifying on Saturday. Jensen Button really needs to improve but does drive the circuit well and he will be confident of scoring a few points this week to end his bad run of form.

No doubt that it was the Red Bulls who were the quickest in Valencia after their upgrades and Vettel must go down as an unlucky loser having landed pole and then having to retire when in control of the race, they will be hoping to carry on where they left off and Webber also did well after a difficult race for him.

The bookies quite rightly have the fight for pole position a straight match between Vettel and Hamilton and unless the improvements work for the McLaren then I have to fancy the German to come out on top in qualifying. It was a shame that the weather prevented Hamilton or Button to learn much during practice and that lack of information for the team may just work against them on Saturday.

At the odds Mark Webber may be a decent alternative as he probably has the second quickest car at the moment and is three times the price of Hamilton and has won around Silverstone before.
