Football Betting
If you enjoy football betting, it’s fair to say that you’ve never had it so good than you have at the moment. Due to the vast financial investment that has gone into the game, live football is now a regular fixture on our television screens. With this increased exposure, the amount of betting opportunities has also increased significantly, especially for the online punter who can take his pick from a multitude of options.
It is now common for an online bookmaker to offer over 100 markets in a single match, and your chance to have a bet doesn’t end when the referee blows the whistle at kick-off either, with in-play betting now being extremely popular.
The English Premier League and Npower Championship naturally make up the lion’s share of the TV weekend airtime, with the FA Cup and Carling Cup always capable of delivering a shock result or two. Europe’s top teams lock horns in Champions League and Europa League action during the midweek.
Now in addition to the more traditional betting markets, a punter has options that include first half and second half betting, over and under goals totals, the number of yellow cards, red cards and a host of other markets too numerous to mention!
Over/Under Goal Betting
This has become hugely popular since it was brought onto the football betting scene a good few years ago now.
The line is usually placed at 2.5 in most cases and you basically decide whether you think that match will have more than 2.5 goals, (ie 3 goals or more) or whether you prefer Under 2.5 goals, as you think the strikers are useless and they couldn’t score if they were playing all night!
Let’s say the match was Arsenal v Man Utd and looking at the scorelines below and what the winning bet was.
Arsenal 0 Man Utd 0 – Under 2.5 is a winning bet as no goals were scored.
Arsenal 2 Man Utd 0 - Under 2.5 is a winning bet as only 2 goals were scored.
Arsenal 0 Man Utd 3 – Over 2.5 is a winning bet as 3 goals were scored.
Total Corners Betting
In a similar sense to the above over/under betting, a line will be set by each online bookmaker. Be careful here as some bookies may include the draw as well, and that can catch you out leaving all your well earned funds in the arms of the bookmakers, and nobody likes to see that!
So let’s take an example.
The line is set at 11 corners by the bookmaker and your choices would be as below:
10 or less corners
Draw
12 or more corners
If Man Utd have 5 corners and Arsenal 4 in the whole 90 minutes then the total is 9 and 10 or less corners is the winner.
If Man Utd have 5 corners and Arsenal 6 in the whole 90 minutes then the total is 11 and the draw is the winner, which often catches the punter unawares.
