European Tour Event 3 Betting: Andy Hamilton can take advantage of Gary Anderson's withdrawal in Dusseldorf
The third European Tour event of the PDC calendar gets underway in Dusseldorf on Friday and unlike the first two, this one is wide open as Phil Taylor hasn’t entered the tournament. Gary Anderson has been forced to pull out due to an eye injury so the event is the most open in recent times. Dave Chisnall, runner up in European Tour event two a couple of weeks ago, is the 10/1 favourite with Blue Square.
Adrian Lewis is the number one seed in the absence of Phil Taylor but that doesn’t guarantee him an easy draw as he has a number of form horses in his quarter of the draw in the form of Ronnie Baxter and Terry Jenkins. Lewis has been finding ways to lose all season but with the World Matchplay a couple of weeks away he should be looking to come good.
James Wade moves up to the number two seed this weekend and he definitely doesn’t have an easy draw with Colin Lloyd, Dean Winstanley, Raymond Barneveld and Justin Pipe all good players, all capable of beating Wade and all in good form and worst still they are all in his quarter of the draw so just making the semi final will take an amazing effort from the man who finished as runner up in the first European Tour tournament of the year.
There are plenty of players in with a shout this week not least Dave Chisnall and Simon Whitlock but they are on course to meet in just the quarter final so I’ll steer clear of both and head to the bottom quarter for a punt on this outright market. Gary Anderson’s withdrawal has opened the bottom quarter right up for someone and I think that someone could well be Andy Hamilton. Hamilton was runner up in a Players Championship tournament last weekend, his second tour final in the last two months. He has a trappy first round match against James Hubbard but if he can win that the draw really opens up for him and the least I would expect is him to make the semi final. At 40/1 he looks the standout value this weekend.
