Epsom Oaks Betting Guide
The Oaks is the 3rd classic of the season and is a Group 1 race open to 3 year old thoroughbred fillies run over 1m4f. The race takes place in early June and often features horses that have raced in the 1000 Guineas, Pretty Polly Stakes or Musidora Stakes. In 2010, Snow Fairy completed an English and Irish Oaks double and also went on to win the QEII Commemorative Cup in Japan and the Hong Kong Cup and was 2nd in the Yorkshire Oaks.
The course is very undulating and not all horses take to the track, many getting unbalanced and unable to race at speed downhill towards the finish. Kieren Fallon has a great record at Epsom and seems to know all the contours of the camber and how to get a horse settled on this specialist track. He has won the Oaks four times since 1997. It is also a race Henry Cecil has done well in, winning the Oaks in 1996,1997,1999, 2000, and 2007.
This race is part 2 of the Fillies triple crown, the first being the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and the last being the St Leger at Doncaster. The last horse to achieve this was Oh So Sharp in 1985.
