Epsom Derby Betting Guide
This race is for 3 year old thoroughbred colts and fillies and is a Group 1 race over 1m4f. It is steeped in tradition and is the most prestigious event in British horse racing and also the richest horse race in the country. It is the 4th of the 5 classics but by far the most important and respected and takes place on the undulations of Epsom’s camber every June. The 1st running of the race took place in 1780 and was won by Diomed. The race this year is scheduled for Saturday 2nd June 2011.
The leading Derby jockey of all time is Lester Piggott with an astonishing 9 wins and three trainers have all won the race 7 times (Robert Robson, John Porter, Fred Darling). French trained Pour Moi won the race in 2011 for Andre Fabre with teenage sensation Mickael Barzalona getting his mount up in late dramatic style to win by a head at odds of 4/1.
