Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes Betting Guide
Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) (1m4f)
The Duke Of Edinburgh handicap is over 1m 4f for three year olds and upwards and always produces a high quality race with plenty of runners. Being a class 2 handicap it’s not one of the richest prizes on offer but never fails to attract the top stables and the likes of Sir Michael Stoute, Mark Johnston and Hughie Morrison have all had considerable success in the last ten years.
As with many of these top class handicaps it pays to give those at the high end of the handicap a closer look, but very few low weighted runners get competitive here for some reason.
It’s not surprising with the nature of the race that not many favourites have obliged, Blueprint in 1999 was the last one to win until John Gosden's Cambourne came in at 11/2 favourite at this years meeting.
One thing that does seem a recurring trend is that horses that won or were placed last time out carry their good form into the race, no less than seven winners won their prep race in recent times and another 4 were placed.
The draw has been inconclusive over the last couple of years with high numbers dominating last season yet low numbers filled the frame in 2009, it’s simply a case of looking at how the track has performed over the last few days leading up to race.
