Djokovic vs Mayer Betting: The world's number one can crush the German challenger
A small check of the outright markets reveals that Novak Djokovic is now down to around 1.60 with bookies like Pinnacle, so I am more than happy to still have that pre-tournament outright in play. Our favourite is going to be in action against Florian Mayer today and I just cannot see him being troubled by the German challenger.
You know, I like Florian Mayer. He can be a bit hit or miss, but he is an exciting player when on song and his unorthodox playing style can do miracles even against the very best. His match against Gasquet was a one-sided affair, as Mayer was able to found the right rhythm early on and never allowed the Frenchman to bounce back. However, Mayer's playing style is not going to be as effective here. Novak Djokovic is moving around the court like ball lightning and he is going to chase all those crazy drop shots down.
The thing is, the German does not really have much apart from those tricky shots. His ground strokes are not word class by any means and he is just not going to outplay the world's number one from the baseline. I do not really see him staying in this match for too long in all honesty, since his serve is nothing special and he is going to get crushed once Djokovic finds his rhythm.
The handicap is set at eight games and that might seem high for a match of this magnitude, but Novak Djokovic should indeed crush Mayer today. I expect him to win in straight sets and one of those sets can be down to more than one break, which should see this line covered.
Back Novak Djokovic (-8) to beat Florian Mayer for a 2/10 stake at 1.87 with Pinnacle
