Cricket World Cup Betting: India 4/1 to retain World Cup crown in Australia in 2015
India delighted their home fans at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday when they beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets to claim their second Cricket World Cup. Kumar Sangakkara won a controversial toss and elected that his Sri Lanka side would bat first in Mumbai and a masterful 103 from 88 balls from Mahela Jayawardene guided Sri Lanka up to 274/6 from their 50 overs.
India looked in a spot of bother in the run chase when Virender Sehwag fell for a 2nd ball buck in the first over and they looked in even more trouble when Sachin Tendulkar edged Lasith Malinga to Kumar Sangakkara with the score on 31. However a well composed 97 from Gautam Gambhir and a sublime 91 off just 79 deliveries from India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni saw them home by 6 wickets with 9 balls remaining in the match to seal India’s first World Cup win since 1983 and justify their 7/2 ante-post price.
Tillekeratne Dilshan could only add 33 runs to his total in the tournament but it was still enough for him to finish as the leading runscorer in the tournament ahead of Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara. Our pre-tournament pick Jonathan Trott finished 4th to reward us with place money. Zaheer Khan took 2/60 to end the tournament level with Shahid Afridi on 21 wickets for the event. Both shared the top bowler gong.
Meanwhile Skybet and Stan James have wasted no time in pricing up the 2015 World Cup and India are 4/1 with the latter to retain their crown with hosts Australia 7/2 favourites with both firms.
