Cipolla vs Cilic Betting: Flavio Cipolla might be more competitive than the odds suggest
The ATP tournament in Hamburg has already brought some surprising results and, quite frankly, I believe that we are going to see plenty of upsets over the following days. For that reason, I am quite interested in some of the underdogs. For example, I think that Flavio Cipolla might do quite well against Marin Cilic, even though the odds (the Italian can be backed at 7.00 with Paddy Power) suggest otherwise.
The Italian has been on a poor run recently, but we all know that he can play well on clay. Just remember his epic match against Stanislas Wawrinka or his victories over the likes of Aleksandr Dolgopolov or Andy Roddick. It certainly seems that he tends to raise his level in these big matches and I think that he is going to see this as a tremendous chance to get another huge result under his belt.
The thing is, I am not really sure about the intentions of Marin Cilic. He has just won a tournament in his home country and that should affect his performance in one way or another. You know, he can continue playing in that excellent form and blow Cipolla off the court. On the other hand, he could also start the match with some sloppy games and lose the thread early on.
Cipolla can be a frustrating opponent, as he is going to chase the ball down more often than not and it is not that easy to crush him. The Croatian is obviously a level or two above him, but I can see him losing a set somewhere along the way today. The price for the set handicap seems to be rather good, so that is going to be one of my today's plays.
